NYOS collection cup float switch

Anyone using the NYOS skimmer with a float switch in the collection cup? I'm looking into replacing my EuroReef with the NYOS 160, but haven't found a solution to being able to shut down the skimmer if the collection cup fills.

Use a small magnet to hold the float switch in place.

Most skimmers you can simply drill a hole in the top and install a float valve attached to a relay switching off power to the skimmer..
They likely sell a universal kit somewhere or another for it..

Do you have a photo of what you have in mind? I've been working with the LFS and we've ran into the following issues with many of the options we've tried to dry fit -

1 - the angled sides of the collection cup impedes most sensors being able to sit level in the cup - and some magnet mounts didn't hold securely because of the curved surface (the radius was too tight)

2 - the curved inside of the lid limit options of running a cable to the sensor, or mounting a float to the lid

3 - the angled sides limit the width available for the float to fit

Hoping someone has come up with a means to overcome the challenges we have ran into so far -

That is exactly what I did to my INS135 skimmer (and then wired to a breakout box that is connected to my Apex).

However, the NYOS is unique in that the lid design isn't a straight up and down piece of plexi to direct the skimmate back into the collection cup - it's a curved bowl on the underside of the lid that almost goes out edges of the collection cup - so drilling would entail both drilling through the lid, and through the curved bowl, which then possibly interferes with how it was designed to perform (in regards to directing the skimmate into the collection cup).

So before I go down that road - wanted to see who has already tried it....or found an alternate solution to consider.

There's a drain hole in the cup itself, why not drain to a separate container and put the float valve there? I have the 160 and I went on vacation for 10 days, so I put the drain line into a 2 liter soda bottle. Simple and easy.

Thats typically what one does with a skimmer cup that has a drain..
You can get a "skimmate locker" from Avast or similar that has the built in float/shutoff too.
