How close can endcaps be to MH bulbs

Subject pretty much says it all. I'm going to mount PC or T-5's in my hood for actinic supplementation but my wife frowns on me starting fires in the house. My only option is to mount them directly to the MH reflector but they'll be within about 4-6" of the bulbs. Will this be a problem?

IMO four to six inches from the bulb will be fine. I would recomment T5's in your case since that are on average smaller. My VHO endcaps are about six inches from my 175w halides.
