Hair Algae what eats it?

Is there a fish or something else that can take care of hair algae?

Sailfin Tang, Lawnmower Blenny, maybe other tangs, but I had really good work done by an Indo Sailfin. I say Indo because the other Sailfins don't seem to like it as much.

Hair algae

It can also vary from fish to fish. One Foxface I owned loved it and another one didn't. My current purple tang loves it, but you might go buy one and find he won't touch the stuff.

I wouldn't "count" on anything to eat it. As posted, it's hit or miss. My foxface and emerald crabs don't touch it. Better to find the cause and treat the problem. Improved flow, better nutrient export, make sure your lights are up to par...to name a few.

IMO, the livestock mentioned above "may" depending on the individual, be of help if the hair algae in minimal, but if it has really grown in, then I doubt it. Even if they can eat some of it, that is just a band-aide for the problem. You need to list all your information if you want people to help you find the source of the problem, which is the only way to really take care of it. List all the info for your tank including size, substrate, lbs of lr, type if skimmer, whether or not you use RODI water, and all of your water params.

My numbers are dead on. I do two waterchanges a week. I have a G3 skimmer for a 58 and a fuge. The lights are 2x250 HQI and 2x54 t5 Maristar. But the tank is about 4 months old so that is the issue but I want something that can help

Nothing will eat it. I tried everything you can possibly buy and either it starved or it just plain didn't touch it. Your best bet is to make the algae want to grow somewhere else. I added a fuge and it took care of the problem within a month. Tons of hair algae in there and very little in my main tank. Here is a pic of mine and it didn't cost that much to setup.

Good Luck!

What are the water params? Do you use RODI? What is your bioload, and how often do you feed?

I wouldn't know. When I got the stuff I exported it manually and added a fuge.

I dislike snails and crabs cuz they knock stuff over. Sometimes I'm my own tang (manual removal ) but controlling nutrients has helped me out immensely with the aid of my refugium as well. There was also another time when my tank was completely algae free, but it was because it was overrun by caluerpa, but that's much easier to harvest, and has some market value..

Mexican turbo snails eat hair algae ime, however if it's too long they aren't as effective. If I brush it off with a toothbrush to short nubs they'll clean it up a lot faster.

I think the fish are hit or miss and it may depend somewhat on what else is available.

My Tomini and Sohal would not touch it, my purple tang and hippo tang will destroy it when some pops loose and gets in the display.
