Can't get my new ASM G3 to work right
Help! I bought a new ASM G3 skimmer and the pipe that connects from the pump to the body won't go on tightly onto the body of the skimmer. I am probably doing it wrong, but there was one little picture that I couldn't tell for sure how it went. The bubbles aren't getting up to the collection cup so it's whirling, but no skim mate is being collected. Does anyone know what I could be doing wrong?
Thanks! ![]()

There's a little black thing with a hole in it (uniseal). That slides into the skimmer body and then the pipe slides into the black thing.
After you get it set up, raise the pipe to the top and let it run. Mine took 2 days before it started collecting skimmate.

skimmer break in
your new skimmer need's to break in. You can put it in your sink or bathtub and add some warm water and a little white vinegar and let it run for a few hours and this will accelerate the break in period. But, be patient, because you purchased a great skimmer.!

Thank you. I didn't realize it needed to break in. Now the bubbles are coming up, and overnight there is an inch of whitish water in the cup. How much skimmate should I expect daily and what color? Will this take a while to get the dark skimmate?
Thanks for advice.

It depends upon your bioload, feeding habits, etc. If you have a light load and feed lightly, you'll get some lighter skimmate. The dirtier the tank, the more crud you'll pull out. Also, the drier you run the skimmer, the darker (and less) stuff you'll get. The wetter, the lighter (and more) you'll get.

Sounds normal. Give it a few more days and it should start skimming nicely. Mine took about a week to really start skimming.
It is a great skimmer. Enjoy it. |
