Newbie here, about to change lights. need advice
Happy easter
Hoping for some advice here. I have a 45 Gallon bow front tank. Made by odysea. Ive already mod'ed the tank a bit, ripping off the back and replaceing the factory filter/pump The lights it came with.. Two blue bulbs connected and two white bulbs. white bulbs read 65 watt daylight 12000K The blue ones dont say anything. The bulbs are now 6 months old, and today I noticed one of the fans stopped working. The only place I see odysee lights are at aquatraders.com and Im not sure what ones to buy, and if this broken fan is an issue. Decided I could probley Replace the WHOLE top. get what tho? more pc's, T5, Mh, moneys no problem, but need the right thing for the size of my tank, heat issues etc... and like it says, Im a newbie and I dont know what to get In the tank.... polyps, mushrooms, zoos, 1 anemone bta, 1 maroon clown, hermits and snails hope u can help? Ill be reading everything I can absorb on this forum in the meantime heres a pic of the top on there now |

I assume that tank is about 36" wide. If so, I'd recommend a 36" 4-bulb Tek Light Hood:
http://www.reefgeek.com/products/cat...ng/104188.html A little expensive w/ the hood, feet, acrylic shield, and bulbs, but it is supposed to be a nice fixture. You should be able to keep anything you want under it. For the bulb combination, I'd start with 1 daylight, 1 aquablue, 2 blue+. The fixture comes with 2 daylight, but the rest have to be ordered separately. |

I would stay away from PCs. Most SPS won't survive under them, and you won't be able to get a clam.

That's probably a TEK system your friend gave you. You can also buy pc replacements that I think will work in the Odyssea fixture. Look at hellolights.com or drfostersmith.com Check the individual length and the pin configuration (straight or square) See this link:
http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produc...?N=2004+113346 I decided to go with T5. I have a brand new MH setup I didn't use. I'm now waiting on my T5s to arrive. Quote:

i found the replacment bulbs at aquatraders for about 14 bucks, and the replacement fan for ten... i feel like i would be supporting a HORRIBLEY cheepo companey that i wish i wouldent have to begin with.
I could sell my 8 bulb tek light for a four bulb maybe.... vishboy.. you have a point. im into softies.. except.. clams have been teaseing me as of lately
