Algae
I am cycling my new tank...and over the day, brown algae has started growing on the front glass exactly where the greatest water flow is...What is this? What should be done if anything.

im going through the same problem myself, most of what i read, people seem to say leave it alone, and wait it our, it will die out as the nitrates get used, you can also grow some macro algea in your sump or in a HOB fuge, that will out-compete the undesired algae

Good. So I guess I don't even need to clean the glass for now? I luckily have some macroalgae growing on my live rock. The rock is getting some hair algae on it, but some purple stuff is growing on it too so I guess I should just wait and see what happens.

They are probably brown diatoms. Just a phase in the algal cycle. Ride it out. Green will likely follow brown, then you may experience some red cyano. Just keep an eye on them an be patient.
