kalkwasser
kalkwasser, was told the proper way to infuse the mix was to add vinegar to it. So most of the ion is bicarbonate which can be used more readily. Otherwise you just basically precipitate out your Ca, the infuser end point shows Calcium buildup. I do notice the corraline looking more larger, the margins seem to have increased.
How is everyone else dosing their Kalk |

I add 15ml of vinegar per gallon as well as 2- 2 1/2 tsp of lime... it still doesn't supply enough calcium to my tank.

Adding vinegar will do three things.
First it will allow you to disolve more Kalk in to the water. If you are having trouble maintaing your calcium levels, because your tank is using it faster than you can add it, then this may be a solution. Second it will lower the PH of your kalk Water. Many people who use Kalk, have a problem with high PH. If you find that your PH is too high, then adding vinegar to your kalk water may be a solution. Third, the vinegar may be used as food for nuissance algae. The active ingrediant in vinegar is C2H4O2, wich will break down into carbon. The carbon will be consumed by algay. If you do not have one of the above referenced problems, then you may not want to add vinegar to your kalkwater as it may increase your chances of a nuissance algae outbreak. Notice the selective use of "may", your mileage "may" vary.
