Fire, Lightning, Thunder...NO POWER!

over the course of the past 4 hours a major storm passed through southern new england and set a oil tanker on fire...besides this plenty of trees and power lines have been knocked down...my concern right now is since many areas are out of power right now they are expecting a HUGE second batch of storms within the hour...how long will be tank be ok w/o anything running...i have no back-up plan in the case of a power outage soooo...kinda screwed

Do you have battery operated air pumps? If so, use them. It is hard to say how long your tank can go without power. The more lightly stocked it is, the better off it will be.

i COULD go get a car/boat battery and firgure out a way to hook everything up to it...not sure if that would be an overload and cause everything to just fry though..

see if anybody you know has a converter from 12 volts to 120 volts. By the way how are you on-line with no power?

my power was out last night for about 10 hours - in my 46G i have a battery powered emergency air pump, and in addition to that I have a power inverter in my truck that converts 12VDC to 115VAC - I use that to run my main return pump on the 46G as well as the air pump in my FW tank and the main circulation pump in my nano.

My LFS said that things could start to die within hours of the power going out due to lack of oxygen in the water, making the battery powered air pump vital to surviving a power outage - being able to run pumps and other things is nice, but not as important ans having SOME way to replace the oxygen your inhabitants are taking out of the water.

hutch - while our power was out I was still online (unti lthe cable went out too) - we had enough reserve to run our cable modem and router and access the net on wireless laptops.

just a hunch here...but in the event of a power outage and no backup plan...would mixing water for a WC replenish SOME oxygen?

Well, I certainly know wher to get a bargin on oil.

The battery powered air pump is widely available and works just fine. See I lost my glow for a host of suggestions.
