Skimmer question plz help!

The waste line of my beckett skimmer has tons of air coming out of it and im wondering if that is going to affect my skimming. I just let the drain tube hang in a large bucket. They do sell a waste collector which would fit snugly on the drain tube. Anyone have this problem. Will keeping the skimmer tightly fitted on the waste collector help keep the pressure contained in the system? any reccomendations?

vijaym85,

yes that air needs to escape the skimmer, not only does the air help push the foam up, is actually one of the pro of beckett skimmers, they are capable of injecting a lot of air for efficient skimming,

and the waste collector will do the same thing you are doing now, (letting the air escape), the only thing it adds is a safe measure, when the cup fills whether is from regular operation, or the skimmer overflowing, the waste collector will shut the air, (the air that you are describing), and the skimmer will lower the water line very low thus stoping skimming,

so in summary, the air escaping is normal and if you stop that air from coming out the skimmer will shut down...

have a good day,

sam

I experimented on an old juice bottle trying to trap all the air and it makes the skimmer level drop a lot. But after turing the gate valve it starts to rise again. I am tryin to see if i gives me any results.

just remember that if you hose goes under the water/skimate level it will start to shut down your skimmer, from the back pressure (a good thing, if you cut the hose to the right lenght it well prevent over flows) much like the collector dose only different. if the hose floats it may not shut dwn your skimmer.

so far I still get plenty of bubbles but if thg hose starts to get exposed to the atmosphere it starts to vent all the pressure thus overflowing the skimmer. If kept enclosed away from outside atmosphere it will create plenty of bubbles and foam.
