Phosban Reactor placement

Can a phosban reactor sit in a sump, in the water itself?

I have pondered this question myself. The unit is sealed on the bottom, so I am assuming it doesn't matter.

thats what i thought, i called marine depots tech line and they told me no, then when i pointed out their site said in-sump he said yes, then he said he didnt really know

hopefully someone else here will know or i'll call two lil fishies monday

Hello, I'm pretty sure they can definitely go inside a sump and not have to be external.
What I'm wondering is if they can be placed parallel on the bottom of a sump completely submerged - or do they have to placed "standing" in a sump. Hope this helps all and someone with knowledge can chime in.

yes it can be used in-sump, just be sure to completely remove the sticker and any residue it leaves behind.

pretty sure it has to be standing up, b/c otherwise all the water would flow on top of the media instead of through it.

I agree that they should at least be mounted vertically for proper flow through the media. Might have to clamp them down some sort of way if they tend to be buoyant.

I plan on hanging mine on the outside of the sump. Hope they don't leak! Anyone had that problem? I am not too thrilled with the barb fittings on the top. BTW, I do have the Two Little Fishies reactor.

Mine hangs on the stand under the tank and doesn't leak. The flow throught the reactor is so small (to keep the media from disintegrating) that there is very little pressure on the barb fittings or anything else for that matter.

Mine hangs on the side of the sump and has never leaked. I use a minijet by maxijet. Great little pumps...

Mine hangs on the sump, never leaked. However, I am going to lightly zip tie the barb fittings because they can come off easily. I have notice while I work around the sump and it gets bumped the fittings become looser.

the only time mine leeked was when I changed the carbon a few of the grains were stuck to the ORING and it didnt seat right

i have the 2 little fishies- using ROWA phos..
mine sits in the sump- in water... no problems with it.. been working for a few months now
