CPR CS 50 or Drilled Tank??
Hello,
I am setting up a sump on my 46Gal bowfront aquarium. I already have a CPR CS50 overflow, but recently found a place that will drill my tank pretty cheap. Which is the better option. If drilling is the way to go, how large of a hole would I want, and how can I get it so the water level is at the top? Seems like the level of the water would always be at the bottom of the hole which would be visibly below the hood of the tank. Thanks so much in advance! ED7 |

Drill it. The CPR is a really poor overflow. A standard 1" bulkhead needs a 1.75" hole. Get the bulkhead before you have it drilled so you are sure of the right size. You would normally use some sort of a weir inside the tank. This would set the water level.

Pardon my newness, but what exactly is a weir? Can you send me to a page with photos? Also, with a 1" bulkhead, I am assuming I can get at least 100gph? Thanks.

A weir is the thing you typically see on an overflow that has teeth. Its the overflow edge/box that the water flows over. 1" will handle the flow fine.

I would drill it if possible. I hate my hang on overflow.

Defninetly drill it. NO problems when the power goes out and then goes back on.
