I HAVE A 90 GALLON I AM SETTING UP TO BE A REEF TANK I WAS LOOKING AT USING A 250 WATT X 2 RETRO FIT KIT FROM E BAY WITH 14K BULBS. DO YOU NEED TO HAVE A UV SHIELD OR NOT THE LIGHTS ARE GOING TO MOUNT IN THE CANOPY AND THERE IS NOT GOING TO BE ANY GLASS LIDS JUST SOME EGGCRATE LIDS. OR DO THE THE BULBS HAVE THERE OWN UV SHIELDS BUILT IN TO THEM. AT LEAST THAT I READ SOME US BULBS DO ANY TRUTH TO THAT. THE BULBS I WAS HOPING TO USE ARE THE ONES ON EBAY THE 14K FOR LIKE 35 DOLLARS EACH ARE THEY ANY GOOD. ANY INFO OR INSIGHT IS GREAT THANKS SHAWN

the HQI Double ended bulbs need a UV shield. The screw type / mogul socket lamps uv shield is the outter part of the bulb and is not needed.
