Water Purification Equipment
Hello all. I am new to reef keeping, I have had freshwater on and off for some years, and have always wanted to move into reef keeping, so here I am. I live out in the country around farm fields, and have heard that using tap water will pretty much ruin your tank. I purchased a RO unit from Lowes, have yet to install it but see it only produces 14 gpd and wastes 5 gallons per gallon produced. I am looking for something maybe a little cheaper than the $170 I paid and that can turn out a higher output. I don't want to go super low quality to where it kills everything, but I also don't want to spend $400 for the best water in the world. I seen on some of the aquarium supply websites a Deionization filter, that can produce higher outputs of water and is a bit cheaper. Would DI water work also? Or do I have to go DO? I appreciate all the input. Thank you!

i got mine on ebay.com from aqua-safe and it is 150 gallons per day(i think) and it only cost me about $130 w/ shipping. it is a very good ro/di unit with 6 stage filtration.

RO water is ok to use, but RO/DI (reverse osmosis followed by deionization) is ideal.
Check out the sponsors page -- there are several RC sponsors that focus on water purification. You can easily get a good unit for around $150 that will suit your needs. If you have questions, e-mail them, as they can help you choose the unit that will work best for you and possibly customize one for you. Also, take a look at the RO/DI FAQ (link from homepage) and read some of the posts by AZDesertRat about RO/DI water. There's a lot of good information there. |

I'd stick with the folks that are on the forum here. either the filterguys, purelyH2O or the buckeyefieldsupply. They all are involved in reefkeeping to some ixtent and know their stuff. I have read many posts of ebay nightmares from purchasing units and having to spend more to upgrade into getting suitable units for reefkeeping.

I still like "the company that can't be named" on RC
Do a search for "Typhoon".
