100g reef
i have a 100 gallon reef tank its been up and running for a year and a half now
my tank is 60 long 18 wide 24 high. currently running bare bottom wish i had sand though use rodi water for top off and waterchanges ammonia 0 nitrite 0 nitrates 10 calcium425 alk 11 phosphates unknown my equipment lights 2 chinese led lights koralia unsure which one jebao wp25 seaclone protein skimmer....i know trash it but its better than what i had and what wife would let me get shes not to into it. mag 7 return pump 20 high sump and diy refugium 4-5 inches of sand fish 1 yellow tang 1 clown 1 strawberry basslet 2 green chromis 1 green mandarin dragonet rescued from a petstore where he was really skinny now hes nice and fat coral orange monti hammer coral kenya tree green star polyps currently battling brown diatoms dont know what to do about them atm |

If your tank has been up over a year and you still have diatom bacteria then you are feeding way too much- your nitrate is pretty high too to prove that. Two things you can do as a short term fix- water change and leave light off until diatom reduce/eliminate. Long term fix- really manage your feeding and invest in a good protein skimmer. In a way the skimmer is the kidney of your tank, without properly functioning kidneys your tank's health cannot improve- use this to convince your wife.
