Where do you guys have your FANS?

do you have fans and where do you put them? side of canopy?

down by the sump?

I always tell my fans to just wait behind the yellow tape or to stay up in the bleachers...
Luckily my body guard is 6'8" 360lbs too so that really helps..

oh.. now I understand the question..

You put a fan where its needed when/if its needed..
A fan is not a requirement for a successful tank.. Its a reactive addition to a potential or real problem.. (moisture/mold.. or to facilitate cooling via increased evaporation)

mine is in the sump although it rarely even turns on.

my stand is completely open in the back so I don't have any issue with it down there.

Depends what you are trying to cool...

If the canopy is warm inside due to lighting, then vent the top and place a fan inside to circulate the air. On the other hand if the water is warm you can ventilate the water from the sump under the stand and circulate it out the back provided it is open.

I'd steer clear of circulating warm air in an enclosed place where it cannot be exchanged or blown out. That would be a waste of energy.

I figure once I have the lights on for 7-8 hours a day when I get corals my canopy would probably heat up so was thinking place a fan on the side of canopy.. my question is do I point the fan inward of canopy or outward fanning the hot air out?

I'd have put mine in my sump area if I had room. Instead I have it on top of the tank, blowing across the surface. I only have it plugged in during the summer months and it tends to only kick on in the afternoon.

I have two fans that blow in from the left side of the canopy and I have a right side exhaust vent to allow the air to blow out of. Everything I've read recommended the air to be pulled in to prevent salt from being blown out into your living space.

What lighting system are you running? I have two Viparspecra LEDs and a two bulb T5HO. Zero fans. Just two rows of 1 1/2" holes in the top layer of thin plywood skin.

No heat issues!

Its "best" to have the fan blow in and if your canopy is sealed make sure you also have an appropriately sized "exhaust" hole for the air to come out..

Pulling potentially moist/wet/salt fog air past a fan isn't good for its lifespan.. It will typically last longer if you pull fresh/dry air past it and blow that into the tank area..

When I was running a MH/T5 set up I had a basic household fan about 5' from the tank. It didn't really cool the water per se, but it did alleviate the heat in the make shift canopy I had. It can get pretty hot in the summer where I'm at and my window faces west. (100+) A fan like this blowing in the tanks general direction really seemed to help. 83, 84 on the top end, no problem.

I bought the 4" Ice Cap fans from BRS. I bought the fan covers (grills) from Amazon... lots of choices there.

My basement is cool enough all year, but I have a big fan that I point at an open window every now and then for air exchange or for when the wife says, “It smells!”. LOL!
