I'm looking for a little feedback on a system i just set up. The top tank is a shallow 40g with cuttings and sand. The the sump is a 40g with deep sand and all the LR is suspended above(eggcrate) with macro algae growing. I've been lighting the sump 24/7. Is this a good idea or should it just be lit opposite of the top tank. Thanks for all comments.

Mikey;

IMHO, both ways have advantages, and I haven't seen a clear consensus.

Advantage for 7/24, no sexual reproduction of algae, constant nutrient uptake.
Advantage for RDP, more stable pH.

Your call.

Good luck;

DougL
