silvers, just make sure you check your pump for rust cuz if its bad, it'll destroy your reef.

I noticed on mine, it had exposed metal and started to rust. You have to break off the back piece and remove it to see if its rusted or not. If it is, you need to epoxy and cauk it were the exposed metal is and let it dry. they it should be ok. Otherwise it will poison your tank.

Hey all, its been a while since anything s been goin on here. Thats not good! So how's everyhting going with everyone. We need skimate pics from others! Anyhow, i wanted to post some funny, yet rather humiliating info. So i've been talkin about how awesome my skimmer has been performing and talking about how much air it pulls. Weeeeeeeeelllllllll, i finally got a air flow dewyer meter. Anyhow, what i thought was alot of air was about 15scfl's! I know, rather sad, and i've know this for a few days not, so i got po'd and started to really research venturi's. They are a very hard subject to research! Everyone talks about the meshmod which is super easy, and broadaning the volute and everything, but no one talks about how they made there venturi. So I've pry made 20-30 venturi's in the last few days. I finally researched for a while and understand the whole venturi thing. So long story short i made a new venturi.........and i'm up to 35scfl's now......the skimmer was a monster, now it is freakin unbelievable! It really is milked out from bottom to the top....i mean awesome! Anyone in the Indy area who would like to come over and see it, feel free to contact me. I like other opinions for proof. Ok, all have a good night, i'll post some pics tonight if i can.

Interested to see what you did with the venturi Luke. Any links to any of that venturi research you did?

Well, i don't have any links. No one really shows there venturi's that much, theyonly talk about there meshmods and so on, but your venturi is your most important part. I basically had alot of pvc, and alot of air injector tube fittings and a pvc cutter and went to town on them all......for months. The best venturi is suposedly with a ball valve attached to the end so you can control the flow and air. I'm sure i'll try that eventually but i would like to see someone who has done it and see a pic.

Just wanted to post a pic of what my skimmer looks like with 35scfl's. I'm sure i'll be getting 50scfl's out of it in the next couple weeks when i have more time. Thats 10.5" diameter milked.

Has anyone tried a mazzie ? They supposedly work alot better than a conventional venturi.

I would like to see the mazzie, its like a myth to me. I've heard the best way to use a venturi is to use a ball valve so you can regulate how much air and water you want to pull. The more you close the ball valve, the more it has to pull in air. I'll be trying this one out pry this weekend, or this week, who knows.

Yes, there may be a ton of venturi's out there, and most of them look just like the next one, but the very subtle design differences are everything when it comes to performance.

I talked to a guy who did this and made it recirc. He said it worked well, but that it didn't blow away the normal NW setup. You could be the first tester fatrip. I'd be scared of breaking teh skimmer as its not real sturdy........(much sturdier than the odyssea ps160 though)

yea i was think of using the skimmer as is and putting another 2 holes in the either front or back and puting another pump on it, with another venturi... think it would be to much?

I think this skimmer can handle around 1500gph tops. I have a 1300gph pump on it pulling 35scfl's and i'd like to get it up to 50scfl's, which i think is its max. But i totally think if you were to put another 600-700pump on it, it would surely be fine imo. I have the water level almost to the bottom of the collection cup, so i still have about 3-4" to spare.
