Very nice! Thanks for the pics Greg. I got worried that I didn't see Doug in there at first. My second time throught the pics I noticed that you can see the trails he made eating coralline on the starboard.

How did you make the background black? IMO the best looking parts of the tank are the parts reflected in the 45-degree views. Maby tank pics would look more true-to-life if taken in a mirror?

Thanks for sharing the pics, Greg. It's really nice to have all this documented.

The tank is looking great, B!

I meant until I got to that pic. I couldn't find him in the full tank pics.

Didn't do anything fancy, just waited until dark and turned off the room lights. In fact, in the first picture you can see a little light coming through the blinds on the other side of the tank.

Barry, look at the very first picture. Doug is in the bottom far left corner. If he would leave the Starboard alone, it would stay covered.

Rothie, it's regular glass. I can't tell the difference when the lights are on. That fish is a Saddled Blenny, the next picture is the female.

Thanks guys!

and thank you Greg for taking these.

Hehe. Here's a picture of one I took on a reef three miles from this tank on the very same day.

I am just about convinced to do a BB on my new tank. Does anyone know if the starboard is made in anyother color, like black or grey?

Try one of the online cutting board companies. I am using light blue in one of my tanks. It's not as bad as it sounds. Under 10K MH it looks buish white. Actually, it is mostly purple with all the coralline on it.

I'm not a BB fan. I think a reef tank should look like a real reef, not corals growing under laboratory conditions. Just my opinion.

I've shown my BB tank to many different people and not a single one ever noticed/mentioned the cuttingboard bottom. The corals seem to grab their attention though, go figure.

If a gorgeous plant were growing out of my head, people would probably admire it too, but wouldn't comment on it's unnatural placement just out of politeness.

You would be surprised how many people have come into this thread and said that exact same thing.

*cue the picture of the real reef*

I guess it depends on what each individual's priorities are. The best water parameters for what you are keeping or whether or not the tank looks decorative.

If you don't like the look of a reef growing in laboratory conditions, Then don't put corals in a test tube (A.K.A. aquarium).

It was only a joke Musicsmaker lol I have NOOOOOOOOO intentions of getting into the “what’s best substrate” debate.

It's cool. I just don't want anyone to get confused about what I meant. I did find a good picture in the thread you linked to though. This is what I had in mind:
