Yes, it was the brand new one I got a few days ago. Casper is still doing just fine.
No, I've not done any testing on the effluent lately. I should do that. You know how when you don't feel well, you don't have quite as much desire to take care of the more mundane stuff, like doing water tests? I did learn a neat trick a couple of hours ago. For some reason, it keep saccumulating a ton of air or CO2 in the effluent line about once a week. What I did today was just lift the effluent line straight up so the output was higher than the top of the reactor, and all the air came out instantly. 2 seconds later, I put it back in the effluent (beer) cup, now that the tubing was full of fluid again. |

It died last night. It wasn't eating, and spent almost all of its time hiding.

Well, I figured a tiny update about this thread is in order. As of right now, the thread is 237 pages long, and has had 344,489 views. The thread has been split 4 times, with this being Part V. At 25 posts per page, this thread has over 5900 posts to it.
The 280g reef had the livestock moved into it on 8/3/04, which was Day 14 of the 14 Day Project. Cprowler, that makes the tank 12,288 hours old. Or 512 days = 1 year, 4 months, 26 days...but who's counting? It was kind of nice looking at the first 20 pages of this thread to relive that intensity that went into getting everything ready for the tank. I still need to make a Table of Contents one day for this thread to make it a little easier to navigate. |

Congats Marc.... Your thread has inspired so many people ( me included ) and continues to do so.... I did a similar FYI for my video thread... amazing... But IMO, I think what really has sent your thread over the top ( so to speak ) is your website... With only 24 hours in a day, you seem to squeez out 25 I wish you continued success... Bob P.S. I want some new videos from you..!! |

[ducked behind a chair in the corner]
that makes the tank 12,288 hours old, with no light hood over the tank. [runs]

I know, I know... no woodwork yet. I'm thinking about a different color for the woodwork now. I was determined to get dark oak stain, but now I'm thinking cherry wood might look better. Guess it's good I didn't do it yet, and then hate the color.
I'm hoping to get a female perspective over here in the near future to help me with the colors in the room. Travis, some people have occasionally tackled this thread from page 1, which really amazes me. I have no doubt that is a great way to learn from many minds reading how a tank progresses forward from the first day. Still, that is a serious undertaking. |

I have a feeling Weatherson's thread is still leader, and many levels.

I just dropped in my frozen mysis shrimp with a drop of Garlic Extreme, to see if it would eat. I saw it get a couple, but its only been in that tank for a couple of hours. I'll try again a little later tonight, and again for the next few days. I started growing baby brine shrimp again, just as a back up. |

My compliment would have been even better had I actually typed the right words. I meant to say "on many levels."
Your tank, your thread, your article for TOTM and your DIY threads are awesome. My hat's off to you. I'd love to watch things grow. I still have a rogue fish chewing on some things, and I bet my bank account it's Tucker. My orange cap was looking great, and suddenly it looks spotted with gray/whitish patches like something was gnawing on its surface. I see the same on a perfectly happy encrusting montipora. Maybe no fish is the cure! Darn obsession. |

Thanks Marc. I hear 'ya on the tank neurosis. Flat worms, red bugs, cap nudis, zoanthid nudi's and spiders, acropora flat worms, aptasia, valonia and then throw in some misbehaving fish and you have to wonder if we are all masochists. I've found that fish are sometimes the easiest to alter with some "time-out" in a size restricted sump. My coral beauty learned his lesson this way and has been a model citizen ever since.

Sometimes I think Tucker is trying to give himself a time-out. He jumped out of my 55g and was on the carpet when I found him. A year later he was flopping about on top of the overflow cover, but landed back in the reef.
I really wouldn't mind putting him in the sump for a while to see if my corals suddenly turn around. I swear he sharpens his teeth on my SPS. |
