Is there a difference in these asterina stars? The white ones seem to be peaceful... but the greenish/blackish ones like to munch on my zoas. I have started removing the dark ones when I find them.

Thanks - Matt

Here's another hitcher I ended up with. It's a ball anemone that popped out of one of my rocks after 10 months. It's about 5/8" when it is open. Most references say they are peaceful. Just thought you guys might like to see it.

Matt

Hokies, your snail is a "miter," actually a costellariid. It eats tiny worms.

Cheers,

Don

I can't see the one in your video, but if it looks like it's flowing, it's a polyclad, and is bad. As for your hairy bivalve, it's an Ark Clam, probably Acar plicata (or a closely-related species). They live under slabs, and can attach, but if you move them to areas they don't like, they will detach and move. Yours is hunting a better hiding/feeding place. They're harmless.

Cheers,

Don

It's Vayssierea felis. Harmless, feeds on spirorbids.

Slug?

Looks like a soft bodied, spiky slug.
Good bad or ugly?

Sorry for the tiny picture. It's a star. White with splotches of brown. Looks slightly bumpy all over.
Good or bad?
What is it?

Yes, aeolid nudibranch. They eat corals. Inspect your zoanthids for more and look for egg sacs.

Asterina starfish. Most are harmless. Some eat coraline, some eat coral. Your call if you want to keep it.

I think I might see a sac. It looks like a circle of dots connected. Would those possibly be it?

And thank you for your response .

So on my zoa's I have spotted three spiral shaped, dotted from end to end. Too small for me to take a pic. Kind of looks like a white centipede or something insect like. They don't move and are very much attached to the stalks of the zoa's and the zoa's are tightly closed and only one or two heads have partially opened.
I'm thinking it could be the slug's egg sacs?
What is the best method to remove them? Manually?(scrape) or Dip? (FW)

Scrape them. Dipping doesn't killl the eggs.

Can anyone id this? Two different critters either one maybe in a larva stage? One of my sps seemed to be very itchy so I dipped and put under the scope. Been in the hobby for 20 yrs and I have never seen this.
Thanks

Dectr6, not all gobies are bottom dwellers. You could pore through fishbase.org for gobies, but it's time consuming. Sorry, I'm not good at fish IDs.

Morten, if you found it on zoas, it's likely a zoa-eater. Hard to tell from that pic, but it's the general shape (not that that's always something to go by).

Hogfan, always capture, then take pics, then release or destroy LOL!
Ha! I got him!!!

The bad news is as I was celebrating the capture I looked back and saw his twin scooting across the sand. I had him trapped in a small plastic bowl but he got blown out by the current as I was bringing him up .

The Polyclad Flatworm hunt continues!

I have some plastic condiment dishes (like the one in the picture above). I just scooped them and a little sand with the dish. Unfortunately I didn't think to cover the dish the second time and ended up only with water and sand. These things are unbelievably slimy!

Great idea, though. Mine was always sliming into a hole in the rock & you can't catch them with tweezers.
