Can anyone give a good description if the difference between W2 and W3? I thought I read one in here yesterday but can't find it now. I don't really see a difference.

Pop the pump out of the cradle and hold it. You can feel the pattern

If I remember correctly the w2 is an even pulse without stopping but w3 has steps. Something like 9 up to max but 6 down to min

But now that I spend some time thinking about it, I think I'm going to change my opinion on that. It stops because it has no power, it's not like they are applying brakes to make it stop. And spinning back up from a stop or from low speed shouldn't be much different. So now I'm thinking W1 probably isn't any harder on the pump than W2 or W3.

BTW, have you figured out what the difference is between W2 and W3? I gave it a bit of a look when I got the pump and didn't see any difference.

Just curious about a old topic for this pump... Has anybody found out exactly what are the diffrences between W2 and W3 modes?

If you hold the pump in your hand and switch modes you can easily fee what they do.. I'm fairly certain my above post us accurate. W2 being an even and steady up and down and w3 being a longer wind up then a wind down. I think the max and min are equal. Only difference being the intervals

If it didn't take me weeks to find the angle that kept almost all of my different corals happy, I'd pop it out and confirm. The problem with a mixed reef is too many different demands. Thinking about it though, I may have the w3 pattern reversed. It may be 6 steps up and 9 down repeating.

Found when I originally played with it out of its socket in march.

@insanefishguy,
Thanks for the info, I plan to pop mine out when I get home tonight. I jsut dont want to stand there for 10 min each mode to see all of the steps. I was just wondering if by now jebo or fishstreet had released a definitive answer on what W2 and W3 do.

You could just press your ear up tight to the magnet. It humms each mode and you can listen to the difference between what w2 w3 and else modes are doing. Also while listening you can adjust the dial and hear how it shortens or lengthens each mode.

Poor English translation can be found at Fish-Street.com on the page for the WP40.

Finally got mine in the mail today! I ordered it March 25th. I can confirm that the power cord does not work. Luckily, I had an old computer cord that is working. The pump seems well built and very quiet. Granted I have it running at 12volts, I think. I hooked it up to my killawatt meter and it reads 19 watts. Full power was 37 watts. It really took some fine tuning to keep the pump from destroying my soft corals. Way too much flow at full power. At 12 volts and the perfect position it is good water movement for my 90gal. I will probably end up getting 2-3 wp25s to replace this wp40. The night sensor seems to be working so far. I am running it in else mode. My corals didn't seem to like w1.

After complaining at Fishstreet that my pump made to much noise, and me asking for a new impeller, as I am quite certain the noise is made by the unbalanced impeller (drops of glue where the axis enters the magnet), Fishsstreet told me they didn't have spare impellers.

Instead I recieved a complete pump (without driver, controller and holder ... as if you couldn't extract an impeller from that) for transport costs ... so happy me. Another pump to test.
Sad to say this one also makes much more noise then my Tunze's. Even driven at 15 volts, it makes way to much noise to be accepted by my wife in the living room.

It is only when the pump runs in night-mode that it is really quiet...but most of the time my wife isn't in the living room at that time...so...it's a no go.

Your house or your tank is just too quiet OR you both have excellent hearing

This...

My wife was giving me the hairy eye ball for a week after I purchased this pump. She hated it.

Now it's super quite and she is no longer complaining about it. Which makes life good lol.

Where would you plave them?

No word on a wp60?

Allright, I had to take it out within a few hours. So I have to find a place where I can run it for a few days.

Well, the first pump I got on Wednesday has already died. Tried two different power supplies and the same thing happens. The controller powers on, but the pump doesn't.

I have two of these so I tried a different controller too and it doesn't work. Pump is dead

Just to be clear, I think it's Chinese not Japanese (that's an older prejudice). LOL!
