L98-Z I think the "A" slabs are a bit of a waste. It all depends on the rock and coral placement though. In my tank I have very few thing that need light that close to the glass. The specimens placed on the sides grow inwards towards the center. If I look from the top my rock is like an inverse W. There is rock on both sides and in the center.

Remember that the lenses on the LEDs give you a 30 to 60 degree spread (depending on the lens you get). You might be better off doing a central square and placing 2 VHOs on the side. Make them all white for the LEDs and use the Super Actinic of the VHOs for Blue and fluorescent pop.

You can always throw in a few blues in the LEDs but I would do something like 90% White 10% Blue. I will make a drawing and post it to see if it makes more sense.
I plan to put a rock wall on the back glass, in which case, there will be a decent amount of coral placement across the walls. I will also probably use optics there since it is so close to the glass. I'm not sure I'll use optics in the middle section.

OK what about this.... You start of with a Rectangle, cut it into 2 triangles and placed them in the canopy. The difficult part is getting the rectangular heatsink cut, but maybe heatsinkusa.com might be willing to do it.

Something like this:

Oh man, that is looking sweet, but you better take out that huge vertebrate from the tank before it does some damage!

Very nice backspin. My tank is remarkably similar to yours and when I was doing my build, I put my 6 year old son in a wet suit and took the same photo. Couldn't get him to do my bulkheads though... I wish I could find that picture.

Anyway, looks great so far. What are dimensions of the tank? Mine are 48" from back corner to edge, 12" on the edges and 60+ across the face. I've guesstimated the volume at around 180 gallon.

Keep posting pics..

Hey guys,
so been a little while since I posted last. I haven't figured out what's up with my tank yet. Still seems to be a mystery. It am now getting cyano algae problems all in the sand bed. Not sure why, the tank still reads 0 phosphates, tested my RODI water as well to see if maybe something is wrong there but it reads 0 as well. I changed out the rodi filters like a month ago or so I think it's been now? And that's when the algae problem showed up.
My light bulb was changed just a few months ago. I still can't figure out why my fish can't seem to live in the tank, all I have is 1 lonely clown that has somehow lived through all these mysterious death problems. And my corals are still doing great, in fact my hammerhead looks like it's nearly doubled in size.
Anyway, hadn't posted in awhile so thought I would stop by and say hi and make the small update.

Hey Mark, when are we getting updated pictures of your tank??

Hi Lotusstar, I am not sure if I asked you last time, but, how random is your flow inside the tank? Do you have a large cleaning crew (snails, hermits, etc)? Do you suffer from low pH?

[QUOTE=boret;16247405]Hey Mark, when are we getting updated pictures of your tank??

Funny you should ask...

I haven't been taking bunches of pictures lately as I've been travelling and doing a lot of home repairs, prep for holidays, etc. However, I did recently pick up a blonde naso tang to complement my purple tang (nice color you have there Mr. Purple). Here's a pic of him as well as the most recent full tank shot from October I think it was.

I'm having to do all sorts of fragging to ward off predatory coral fights. I also added another 30 pounds of sand, which sadly has started a secondary cycling which has caused some cyano and diatom blooms. Ugly stuff which I am fighting with increased powerhead spraying of rocks, more frequent water changes and a healthy dose of patience.

Boret,
Lets see, flow I have 2 K3's in the front corners pointed in, and 2 Tunze 6025's in the back corner. One on each side of the overflow pointing in toward the front glass. Seems to be a fairly random flow, the corals wave around a good little bit. The return is also directed toward the front glass.
As far as cleaning crew I do have a pretty big crew, bought a big package from reef cleaners I think is where I got them. Lots of variety of snails and crabs, and also added about half a dozen peppermint shrimp that apparently didn't care much for aiptasia hehe. Finally took care of that problem a few months ago with aiptasia X, that stuff worked great.
Don't suffer from low PH either. It's bottoms out around 8 if I test before the lights come on and with the lights on testing is around 8.2.

Looking great Mark!! As always Fantastic tank and a beautiful fish you got there!

lotusstar, I really can't think of anything else. Corals are more difficult to keep than fish and it seems to be the other way around for you. I always go back to the same hypothesis, poisoning. Something chemical that affects your fish and not the corals. Algae is not a "bad" issue, just an ugly one. Is there a way you can maybe post a recent pic of the whole tank?
Fish will survive larger salinity, pH and temp fluctuations than corals, so if the corals stay alive you are having none of those swings.
Oxygen depletion would also affect the corals.....

Hey everyone. I hope you all had a nice time over the holiday. I just had a couple pics to post. I cleaned up the tank really well for when we had company coming over, and soaked the powerheads in vinegar and removed the ugly frag racks that were in there and placed the frags around the tank. It's not too much different than my last FTS, but it looks much nicer without the frag racks obstructing the view!

Yep, my height is 24". Deeper than that and I'd have a real tough time reaching the corners.

Thanks Boret. I appreciate the compliment. I'm starting to turn the corner on the diatoms and cycling so I'm excited to see what bare spots I can fill in next month.

Hi everyone, I posted on here a little while ago while I was getting the tank started, but now, many months later everything is finally transferred over. Everything has not found it's place yet as you can see, but it's in the tank and getting settled, and used to the new lights! Figured I would snap some pics for all to see and give opinions on, will be starting a build thread soon! Halides are off all pics are taken with actinic/ 75/25 t5's only, some with flash some with out.

Tangers - that rock is very nice looking! I really like the texture of it. How far from the back glass is the rock? From the pics it looks pretty close, but it's hard to tell. It's gotta be nice to have an extra 170gal worth of space/water to keep your tank stable! Can't wait to see your tank maturing, and is that a Cherub Angel?

Thanks reefscape15! The rock has to be a good 6" from the back. Some of the rock touch the back on the very top but only in about 2 spots. Lots of room back there for hiding and water flow! Yeah kind of hard to look at it now being so bare but looking forward to it maturing just like you said.

Well just a small update. I moved all my SPS frags around and finally cemented them in place, and just picked up a new Redish/Green Acro frag, Yellow Sun Polyp frag, and Orange Torch Coral frag!

stray currents is a posibility for sure, but although ive read hundreds of posts on the subject across litrally dozens of on-line sites, ive never seen any posts suggesting livestock have died due to it, i think its a subject with lots of reef gossip and no real evidence tbh

Hey guys,
Sorry I couldn't answer questions, but it's been a busy time here for the holidays. I will post some new pics, will take some tomorrow to post.
Stray voltage is a possibility due to all the electrical stuff in the tank, I have a probe that is in the tank and wired to an outlet, ground probe or whatever they are called. I don't really ever feel anything when I put my hands in the tank so not sure if I have a voltage that I just can't feel.
I wouldn't really think voltage would be an issue since I have 1 clown that's managed to live through it all, so don't see how he would be immune to electricity vs my other fish but tomorrow I will grab my voltage meter and test it out.

Guys I am hoping someone in here will be able to help me out. I am about to purchase the 92 gallon AGA corner tank with the stand. I will not have a canopy on it, which leads me to my question.. Is there any type of MH lighting system that will fit the 92 corner tank well? Something like a sunpod, outer orbit, odyysea, etc. I just want it to stand on top of the tank, and then I will probably use an egg crate to keep the fish in.

I have seen in this thread (god its huge and overwhelming) a few 54 gallon tanks with a setup similar to what I want, but not any 92 gallons (I looked for around an hour, I am pretty sure it would take me days to go through everything here).

Anyone know of any lighting systems that would work?
