Payrion, your spider-looking thing might be a gall crab. I can't tell too much about him from the pic, but it looks too fat for a pycnogonid. Also, that looks like it might be a "gall" that he's living in.
Cheers, Don |

Looks a bit like caulerpa. I'd be happy with it.
Whatever it is, it's a macro algae. ;-) |

Hello all.
Can you see the little tentacles on the back of my trumpet corals skeleton? I can't get a good picture because its growing on the backside of the coral. I assume its an aiptasia. I have had the coral for about 3-4 months and have not seen anything until yesterday. I was thinking of taking the frag out and dipping the skeleton in a bowl of fresh water then I would squirt it with lemon juice. Then swish it in SW before putting it back in the tank. That way I won't hit the polyps with lemon juice in the DT. Makes sense?? |

Hey all,
Been searching the whole net for this, but so far, no luck. Maybe one of you old salts can easily make an ID for me? It's this black, net-looking stuff on my live rock: it's hard, and not at all slimy. About an inch square in the pic. I broke some off by poking it with a toothpick, and then immediately regretted it as it drifted off (sank, mostly) to potentially colonize other areas of the tank. Anyone know if it's anything to be concerned with? Thanks! Last edited by Dino; 09/16/2013 at 04:23 AM. |

Bleh I actually didn't wait. I found a syringe and was able to give it a concentrated blast without issue. Hopefully that does the trick.

Pix & ID: Critters that come in your rocks: the good and the bad.
Ive been gone a this past week on vacation. A friend has been feeding the fish and sorta taking care of the tank. I had the lights off tonight and was looking around my tank with a flashlight. I found 4 different spots with aptasia growing. What's the best method from getting rid of these guys? Any particular reason these guys just showed up? Thanks

Brittle Star Type?
Hello! I am new to RC, and this is my first post. Is this a Mini Brittle or a large brittle star? Will it be reef safe? It came with the live rock i purchased from my lfs. Any and all help will be appreciated and thank you for all the help just from reading!

Looks like a mini to me. Same color and pattern as mine, anyway.

This squishy little fella?
Weirdly inconsistent post appearance behaviour on my first request post, hence the quote. Tapatalk's fault? Not trying to come off as too needy...
Anyhoo, howsa about this guy? Ball Anemone? It's about half a centimetre in diameter, and there are one or two others around the corner, inside a live rock hole. He caught some food yesterday and proceeded to eat it up right quick. Quote:

Dead or dying ones. Unless it's not a actually a bristleworm but some other type. It's kind of like saying maggots killed a dead animal on the side of the road just because you saw them eating it.

Any ideas what this is. It's kinda soft, almost rubbery feeling.
( Sorry about the quality. I'm in the process of getting new lighting. ) Last edited by Dino; 09/19/2013 at 04:36 AM. |
