They'll place the leds just fine. Ratio is 34:15:1:2:2:1 as listed.

Keep in mind, this won't be my primary light. I'm still building that one.

This is what my Cree/Luxeon Nova A4 looks like so far.

I was going to have them add the additional dimmer for moonlights. The response I got back from Lyn only talked about white and blue led's. Just want to make sure I give him the correct details. Would this setup work well for all type of corals? This would be my main light.

Any of these 3w lights will grow all coral, clams, anemones, etc.

All you really need is blues and whites, with a bit of violet. Any other color is purely for aesthetic appeal, and should be used very sparingly. Whether you like the extra colors is purely a personal taste.

Ok now I'm leaning towards buying four of the ones that bh listed simply because it assigns a number value to the brightness and I match up 4 fixtures across much easier than trying to use a dial. I worry about the moonlights though, I don't want any light at night. My puffer will abuse the snails all night long.

Unless you really wanted sunrise/sunset, I think it'd be a waste to spend an extra $100 per light over a regular d120, especially if you don't want moonlights. Almost a $400 difference for the exact same light output.

Ok can you link me again? I know I want 60 degree in the middle, 90 middle, 120 degree on the outside for blending. I'm just trying to figure out colors.

Add a few NW instead of all CW...do I need reds and blues. I just want to order and be done with it.

bhazard451, Just got en email from Lyn and all I can say is WOW! Did not realize how customizable these are. He gave me a chart to place the led's and I am unsure how this should be done. Should I go with all 60 degree optics or mix it up? What would be the best placement of the led's?

There really is no right or wrong way to do it, go with what you think you'd like optics and led wise. Just give them the ratio, and they'll put it together without you having to choose where each led should go. They'll spread the colors out evenly.

So I've talked a bit with Sunny and I'm a little nervous. I ordered on the last day of the sale and did customize with lenses but every time I talk with him I'm not sure if he knows what I ordered? He said he would ship it Friday and today I asked about a tracking number and got a reply a few hours ago the it ships today and I still haven't got a tracking number? I not mad just nervous if its getting shipped and if it will be the right customization. Fingers crossed. If its all good I will be really happy but not the smoothest transaction lol

The lights are made to order. As listed on the link, it says it can take up to 10 days for them to make the light and ship it. Mine took 10, as it was the first Nova made. Once shipped, it usually arrives in 3 days from hong kong, which is extremely quick.

They've been very helpful to a lot of people, and have great communication.

Alibaba.com links don't show the shipping charge. Aliexpress.com links have the shipping charge built into the cost and say "free shipping" to save on listing fees.

Use all of the different whites if u can. The more variety the better. It may have a multicolored look though, so use more of the 10-14ks

1. cmantis I am currently looking at the one you have designed or one of the below links for my 46 gal bowfront. Would like some feedback on it from others though, like you mentioned please.
I sent you a pm but I ordered the following from Shenzhen Sanxinbao Semiconductor Lighting Co (Sam & Sunny):

After spending hours looking through this tread I am more confused about choice hahah I have a question for everyone. What would you recommend for me? my tank is about 28" long but only 14" deep (my upgraded tank will be 19") I would like a dimmable fixture, with moonlights and cree leds. I just want royal blue, blue and white leds because I will use t5s as well for actinic. My tank is just SPS and Zoas so I will have optics on as well. What do you think? this is one of the fixtures I am looking at and have been quoted $381 USD including shipping for the DM-40x3W-C ( Cree) model.

I used all 10K in mine. I just thought when buying t5 bulbs I never bought 6500K. May have caused algae. Not sure. 10K is a pretty full spectrum light. Just my personal opinion

Are Cree leds and a controller non-negotiables? If it is only 14" deep, and you are using optics, Crees might be overkill. The dimmable (by knobs) d120 with optics would only run around $170ish and provide plenty of light. The $255 d120 from Twilight Group with built in controller would still be $100+ less.

Did you add the other colors to broaden the color spectrum of the light and give it a more natural look?

Is there a big difference in the quality of light from cree vs bridgelux vs epistar? Just wondering if it is worth the extra money to use one over another. I have Lyn giving me a price on all three.

Could you please post some pictures of the lights once you get them set up over your tank. I like your design and am really interested in how they look. Did you order optics? I will need 4 of these for my tank and really want to know exactly how they look before plunking down that much cash.

Bridgelux/epistar are the same generic asian sourced leds. I doubt these use actual Bridgelux sourced leds. In theory, it would be tough to tell if you are getting actual Crees too. Some use authentic ones, some might not.

None of the Cree fixtures use the newest Cree XT-E leds yet. I don't see the value in paying a premium for last gen leds like the XPE. The XPG's are still nice, but none of these fixtures use them to their full advantage at over 3 watts.

Will do! They were making them today so hopefully will be here by next week. I did order 90 degree optics but the led's are already 90 degree however I figured since there is no splash guard it can't hurt and the optics may improve the focus a little.

OK, probably stick with the bridgelux/epistar. How did you come up with your color combination, trying to mimick natural light better? Did you put the colors with the whites on one dimmer and the blues on their own dimmer?

That is true about paying a premium for the old crees. I would like a controller though. Do those D120's have the whole simulate sunrise/sunset? have you got the link for them?
