Yes and there's nothing wrong with that! People should put in their tanks what they like and what they think looks cool. Who cares what other people think what's in your tank.

I dont like acro's. Many hobbyists don't. Colored sticks...quite unremarkable. Why would you think they are the most desired?

Desire was incorrect, your right. I stand by the rest. Acros require more light and coverage.

Look at their price tag; there is no question in this regard really. Obviously not everyone's cup of tea but the demand for high end acros far exceeds anything else in the industry. Coupled with being relatively fragile, the prices get ridiculous.

I love 'em all; the color spread and growth patters that can be achieved with SPS is fantastic. The movement of LPS is mesmerizing. The symbiotic relationship between anemones and clowns is incredible. Fill in the nooks and crannies with feather dusters, 'shrooms, polyps, zoas etc. and it's just incredible.

With that said, I transitioned from a mixed to SPS dominant tank about two months ago. The extreme colors offset some of the movement that catches your eye but the Kessil shimmer provides an illusion of movement in there as well.

Here's my situation. My tank is 3' wide x 5'long and 2' tall.
I have 3 360we running down the middle with 4 t-5 bulbs in front and back of the Kessil. Tank is roughly 1 year old started with tbs rock. It seems everything grows slow in my system. My rock work covers 2 ' of the width and roughly 1' tall. Alk around 7dkh, calcium at 450. My phosphates are a little higher than I like, and I have to dose nitrates to get a reading.

I am considering 2 options. Either adding another row of 360s or removing Kessil and adding radions.
I run the lighters at max intensity and around 50% color. Kessil ramp up and down from 11 to 11. T-5 s stay on for 5 hours at peak.
Suggestions?
I have a mixed reef. Acros stay closer to brown than colored. Very little entrusting on anything. Also certain Lps struggle while others are stable.

My personal opinion is that three more Kessils would be the way to go (provided you wanted to stay with Kessil) along with the T5s since you already have them.

Dust!

So I blew out my A360WE for the first time a couple of days ago and now there's dust on the inside of the splash lens. I emailed Kessil but haven't heard back on how they suggest getting it out there. Opening the light voids the warranty if I'm not mistaken. I pulled off one of the rubber covers and the screw looks like it requires a special tool I don't have. Anyone have any suggestions?

IIRC, you need a torx screwdriver to open it up. I suppose you tried to blow more air to see if the dust will go away?

Thanks, and yes it is a #10 torx. Kessil said it's easy to pull off the housing once the two screws are removed. They made a notation on my warranty that I was given authorization to open it up

Wow... that's good to know about kessil. So far I've been happy with their support. Once you take it apart you'll notice how the PCBs are dipped in some sort of elastomer to help protect it against the elements.

New Kessil member here

I have a A80 with the spectral controler over my 8g mixed reef. I love it!!! Love the color, the absence of weird green and red color and the disco ball effect. And my corals like it too so all is well!!!

Welcome to the club! No disco, great shimmer, small form factor, what's not to love?

I know, right and not a fan of all this wifi programming thing. Sometimes having too many options is worse than having too few IMO.
Trying to put pics but always get an upload failed message...help!!! Lol

Haha...yes, too many options is...the paradox of choice! A real pain in the arse.

In other word, Kessil LED has the least hot spots, and that's very desirable.
Exactly. I chose Kessil because of the shimmer effect and even spread. Also low profile over the tank. I am not focused on growing SPS. I actually prefer LPS because of the movement they add to the tank.

It still has the typical hotspot in regard to intensity but has the best color blending by far.

I have grown sps successfully with two a360we's on a 4 ft tank. Thats one for each 24" of tank.

One of 3 sps frags:

Same frags later:

orange sps ...sorry for poor pic, all I have

same sps frag a few months later:

stylo frags:

same ones a few months later:

Digitata frag:

After a few months:

And thats with one every 24". See previous page for some acro growth pics. I am not hesitant to say that if you had one a360 every 18", you could grow basically anything. I agree with both Kessil and BRS.
You have a great looking tank. May I ask what schedule do you run and at what intensity? Thanks in advance.

Pic taken yesterday

Anybody know what kind of mushroom this is? It has a grey/blue base with orange/pink

Thank you! I thought 70% was too bright. I have four 360s over my 5ft at about 7 inches over the water. Right now I am going through a biopellet related crash but hopefully this will be over soon.

No problem. You have plenty of light. I have two over a four foot tank, at 6" height. Best method....watch your corals for feedback. Some low light corals will adapt to higher light. Few high light corals will adapt to low light.

I actually have a 3rd a360 I never use. I keep it as a spare.
