The recirc mod isn't a good idea with the extruded acrylic and its very very thin and will easily crack. I think on the first few pages a guy tried it and it cracked and he had to buy another one. The real mods here are as follows that will improve your performance alot.
1) Meshmod and 1/4" venturi 2) Take out inner tube 3) add 3/4" elbo on inner bulkhead. That is the only one i didn't try, the only thing that will be negative with this mod is it may lower scfh with the bend and may return more micro's. But it will help dwell time. The genx2400 mod was just not much of a help imo. |

I did the same cleverman, but in the end, the stock pump was just as good. I tested both as far as scfh go, and the stock pump can do the same as the genx. The only difference i see besides the gph is the fact that the odyssea doesn't want to start with alot of enkamat on it. I have not had this prob with any other odyssea pump.

luke on the input on the pump i bought the white pvc adapter. before i drilled anything i checked inside and noticed that the adapter was actually smaller that the stock inlet pipe? so i just left the stock inlet pipe on it and drilled a new hole as close to the seal as possible and put my 1/4 pipe on it. Then i just stopped up the stock air inlet pipe. Any reason you bought the pvc inlet pipe?

I'm really wanting a 160 to replace my DIY recirc skimmer, but I really don't think it's going to fit in my sump under the tank. I have about 10.5x11 inches to work with and at max 26 inches of height from bottom of the sump to the bottom of the display tank. From the measurements on aquatraders site, this isn't going to be enough room, but I don't necessarily trust their dimensions. Can someone give me accurate measurements?
Thanks, -J

Mia,
Thanks for the thread you started on the Odyssea lights. Got one myself a few month back. On my calculation the 160 has a footprint of 10X10 inches minimum and the height of 22 inches plus another 1.5 inches to take out the collection cup. you are good to go but might be a little tight fit with the footprint. |

The dimensions are to big for it, you'll need a few more inches on each side.

A 10g tank is 12" wide, the ps160 is fairly small footprint wise.
Chev good to hear from ya and i'll be looking forward to your pics....on my night, I built a canopy for my tank finally, and have it ready to add my 250w MH and my 2x48 blue plus and 2x48" fiji purple t5's overdriven with a IC660, should look pretty nice. On a horror story note, I was about 90% done and my 3 yr old boy accidentally dumped furniture stain, dark maple to be exact all over him, from head to toe, so he stained himself dark maple tonight, so i was on teh phone with eroom and poison control to see if he did anything bad. He's ok, but what a freakin night! |

So I've got a PS 75 and I'm having a problem with it. Its HOB on my 55 and it was running great for awhile. Now I can't get it to stop overflowing. No matter what I set the outlet valve at, it overflows. Any ideas how to fix this? I'm sorry if I missed this issue earlier in the thread but 40+ pages is alot to go through. Thanks for any input.

Billman, have you dosed your tank lately or done any water changes with additives or added any new equipment? These are my first thoughts. I'm headin to bed, later.

I've tried Coral-Vite and Str&Mol additives recently. Would these things cause my skimmer to overflow? I don't see how that would happen. I've heard that changes in water chemistry can alter how a skimmer performs but I didn't realize that it would be so drastic. Thanks for any input.

it may...also check to make sure your air intake isn't blocked...or try completely removing the adjustment screw. If air intake gets blocked the pump will just push water causing it to overflow as well.

There quiet skimmers, as for the additives, yes that would cause an overflow imo. When i ran the ps160, water changes would sometimes get it overflowing.

Thanks for the input. Why would changes such as additives cause the skimmer to overflow? I'll double check all the air lines for blockages. Thank goodness I've got a 4 day weekend this time. Plenty of tinkering with the tank to do.

So, I completely shut the air down. Now its essentially a pump pushing water through a tube. I'm going to let it run like this for a day or so and then slowly open the valve and allow air in. We'll see what happens but I think I should be able to dial it in this way. I'll just have to go slow. Thanks for all the input and the help. I'll let you know tomorrow night how it all went.

Holy crap. The price of the skimmer isn't bad, but the shipping is insane! Does aquatraders ever offer free shipping on these?
