O.K. I bought some egg create for a skimmer stand. What is the best way to build It. Just make some legs out of egg create and put a peice of eggcreate on top of it.

i would do pvc legs and ziptie and glue the egg crate to them. you could even cut some notches in the pvc legs for the egg crate to sit in then glueand ziptie. you could just build a box out of the egg crate but i would think it would not be too sturdy.

I made mine out of layers of eggcrate. cut a piece the size you ned then just stack them up. Then on top I put a piece of acrylic.

ok, i'm in got my 180 in sump and i'm glad i went with this skimmer cause it barely fit in my sump. Not much of instruction which letter pipe goes in first a or b, and how far closed do you keep your wedge pipe.

I made the stand using egg create as legs, It don't seem to bad but im not sure how long it will last. I think tomarrow i may build one out of pvc then put the acticlic on top. I don't know, I may just see how long this one lasts.

i put an air silencer on mine and this skimmer is very quiet, i like the wedge pipe easy to adjust flow. Very solid skimmer acrylic is thicker than my octopus skimmer and not flimsy at all, alot heavier than i thought it would be. I'll get pics in here later on.

one thing i found out is don't push the inlet tube that goes into skimmer body to far just enough to go inside of of bubble plate chamber by 1/8 of an inch to get better performance other wise if tube goes to much further in than the water and air don't flow real well cause tube disrupts flow since its kinda cyclone flow. I had mine in to far and it was a royal pain in butt to pull back out and skimmer performs alot better with tube barely in chamber.

had to do some tinkering to get in going right, didn't seem like it was sucking in air like it was supposed to then i unpluged it and checked pump and plugged it back in and it took off pulling air better got a real good constant head of foam now.

looking good. I am glad you all are liking your vertex. This is the first review I really sat down and wrote out for everyone. I liked it and if you all thought it was a dud then well I guess I am an idiot. LOL ok ok some of you might think that anyways. Again Glad to hear you all are having pretty good luck with the performance of your vertex.

thanks alot mojo. if it werent for you i probably never would have gotten this skimmer. i really appreciate you taking your time and reviewing the skimmers that you have had. i guarantee it has helped alot of people make a decision on a skimmer when there are so many out there to choose from.

got a video also, took air silencer off so everyone can hear and see skimmer run stock. Makes some some noise pulling in air, most of noise in sump is my mag 18 return pump it makes a good humming sound.

sounds loud but i had camera right above air tube and as soon as i back up you don't hardly hear it and when i close cabinet doors i don't hear anything. I need to get an air meter so if someone can post me a link were i can buy one i will get some numbers to see what kind of air i'm gettin.

I got mine breaking in right now, just have it in tap water. You guys think i should add some viniger? With regular water it does not do to much really, it just has some larger bubbles. And not any at that.

I think im going to put the skimmer in the sump in a few and see if it will help clear up the water a bit. Its still really cloudy.

some websites advertised it as a needle wheel skimmer but marine depot advertises it as pinwheel and mine came with pinwheel.

Well i got it going now!!! You guys were'nt kidding about it having to be in 7 inches of water. I had it it 8 but it just would not stop overflowing. I got it going good now. The whole thing is white with bubbles except for a couple inches on the bottom!! This thing looks like its gonna ROCK!

Well still breaking it in, Kinda hard to keep the head down. I don't want it to overflow when im sleeping so i took the drain plug out for now. Its in about 6 1/2 inches of water right now, I may take it up another inch. Or should i just wait for a few days and see what happens after break in?
