Amen to that! I guess life's lessons don't always come cheap I just wish I had bought Giesemann years ago. A friend who did still has his fixture after 6 years. He did replace a ballast, but it still runs like a champ and his tank is gorgeous. I look forward to a long and happy experience with my Spectras and I'm certain you will love the Matrix. Make sure and post some shots for us every couple months or so!

I will, but I just got delayed 8-10 weeks for the dimmable ballast. They are also changing the "pricing structure." I'm sure we all know what that means |

Joining the Giesemann club today. Switching my reef back to halides. I got a good deal on a 48" Infiniti fixture, 2x250watt DE with 4x54watt T5's. I will probably run Phoenix 14k's supplemented with 4 ATI actinic's. Does anyone run this combination, what do you think?

I dont run that combo but it will look and perform very well! I prefer a bit more blue. But I also run 2 400w SE. So Radiums are my choice.

Giesemann owners, I need some help. I have the 48" Infiniti 2x250 watt HQI with 4x54 watt T5's. Apparently you can no longer get the Giesemann ballasts in North America. Coralvue is the new NA rep for Giesemann. They are recommending the luXcore ballast as a replacement, which if fine, but it will only run the halides, not the T5's. My question is, when I replace the ballast, do I need to re-wire the T5's? If so, does that mean I will end up with 4 cords going to the fixture, instead of the two current ones? two for the halides and two cords for the T5's.

If you have a three plug Infinity one plug is for the MH ballast and the other two are for the T-5's.
If you want to replace the MH ballast I would put a Aqua Medic M80 cube on it if you can find one, or a Hamiltion M80 ballast and simply rewire it there are threads on that as well. |

I run that exact setup with two blue + and two coral +. Get great growth and I'll say pretty good color, but now I'm big time into SPS so my upcoming 6' upgrade will probably run 20k radiums on a new fixture just because everyone else does. I don't think they make double ended (my cheap fixture) so the Phoenix 14ks it is. Really don't think you can go wrong with this setup. |

Still a work in progress with 2 years or more to go until I think it will be "done" but just an updated photo showing how everything is progressing. I LOVE my fixtures!!

One questions for geisemann users. Do you keep running the metal halides and t5 s at the same time. Or is it t5s on then they go off when halides come on and when halides go off do the t5s turn off.
Also what amount of time do you guys run halides for 400w bulbs with 20 inch deep tank amd lights mounted 10.inches high.

I have a blue LED strip come on first, that puts out very little PAR. I have 2 T5's come on 2 hours before the halides then 2 more an hour before. Then my 2 400w come on about 15 min separate of each other. All T5's stay on. The halides run for 6 hours. then 2 t5 go off 1 hour after then the last 2 an hour later. LED strip dims and goes out last 2 hours after the last t5s.

Hello everyone, as most of you already know CoralVue has taken over distributorship for Giesemann in North America. We are expecting our first delivery of the Giesemann's new range of T5 lamps in two weeks. I'm looking for three T5 only users to be beta testers for the lamps. For consideration please email me at chris@coralvue.com along with the following information:
1. Brand, length and color of T5 lamps currently in use? 2. Which fixture brand are you using, or DIY? 3. Size of aquarium and type of corals? 4. Please provide a current photo of your aquarium. Three hobbyists will be selected based on criteria that we have already developed. All we are asking is for honest feedback on the look and performance of the new range of Giesemann T5 lamps. Thanks, Chris Conti |

I've read this whole thread. Everyone keeps talking about the Halides and T5s. Does Giesemann make an LED fixture?

Switched out an ATI Actinic 03 for a Giessman Actinic+ today. Looks very much like an ATI Blue+ with a liiiiittle deeper blue color. I'm liking the change so far!

I've had Giesemann Spectra's for 4 years. Great fixture.
I have 3 of the 3x400W+4T5 units. I run 5 400W Radiums and 4 400W 12K Reeflux. They actually look very similar. The Reeflux are just a hint whiter, so I run them at the back of the tank. (It's 6ft across, 8ft front to back and 3 ft tall). They make the back just a little more defined. 6 blue+ T5 on at 10am. Next 6 T5 at 11 am.( 2 Purple+, 1 aqua b special and 3 blue +). MH on at 12pm, off at 6pm. Does anyone run their MH for much longer?. I think Chingchai runs MH for 10H. I will likely run 6b+ and 6 coral+ next time. I think the extra white/ red brings out pinks much better. I previously ran 12 ATI Blue+ with 400w Reeflux 10k. Great bulbs. Corals love them- horrible white colour for me!. I then switched to Radium, the best light for me, but I think pinks and reds are a bit washed out though. Coral+ has a bit more red and blue than their white tube (Aquablue special). Finally, I've been thinking whether the different combos available with T5 lights might be something to try and I'm thinking about a switch to the ATI T5/ led combo. There seem to be some good results with this unit?..... Mo |

Why did you do a reboot?. Did you have coral probs or just got bored?. I think you tried with much more t5's and fewer MH?. How was your experience? Which SPS do you have now? Your blue tort was one of the best I've seen. Cheers Mo |

My tank was simply overflowing with coral and I had very little room to grow both literally and figuratively so I decided to start over and see if I could redo a TOTM worthy tank starting form almost scratch. For me corals are like fast growing Bonsai trees. A really good Bonsai can take 30 or 40 years and a really good reef takes 2 to 5 years if you grow your corals from frags rather than buy and place ocean grown colonies. That is the challenge I love and that is why I started over. I love growing colorful SPS and creating a reef that looks awesome. The process is most of the fun for me. If you do your research in depth you will find that Giesemann makes the LEDs with the best spread of any LED on the market today . . . But, read my posts if you want to understand why LED light is not ideally suited to growing coral. All light is not the same when talking about photosynthesis. Futura
