I'm using an aqueon 2300, it was an energency purchase as my mag drive went out and my only store in my town is petco. Surprisingly it flows a lot and is pretty quiet, I have it on it's lowest setting and my overflow barley keeps up.

Which mag drive were you using? Just curious as I'm in the market to get one for my 25g. Also been looking for vanities on Craigslist to do like yours.

I was running a mag 5, kind of over sized, but I'm only running 1/2" tubing so it didn't flow as much as it could. Have you considered one of the new controllable DC pumps? I think I might switch to one, probably the reef octopus diablo.

I am purchasing the Jebao 3000 next week, Should be able to run any reactors I might need in the future. And always good for an upgrade of tank too.

Let me know what you think after you get it running.

Yes 150w, the bottom of the reflector is 7 inches above water level.

I think most guys go with an XM 20k or radium 20k bulb. I'm in the process of setting mine up and I'm going with the radium.

Hey mic...what size bit was the overflow and return line you drilled in the tank. I'm guessing a 1" for the overflow and 3/4" on the return? I'm getting ready to drill my tank and not sure if I want to do it myself or pay the lfs $60 to do it for me. If I do it myself gonna check the local forum to see if anyone has bits I can borrow.

The drain was a 1.5" (1" bulkhead) and the return was a 1-1/8" bit (1/2" Bulkhead).

So I think I can get a good deal on a mag 5. Was it able to keep up running your reactor on the return?

Yes it was able to powder both. The secret to get good flow out of a mag5 is to convert the 1/2" output to 3/4".

Mic209,

First off.. I have to say you finished off a very nice project ! I just read the entire thread and it all turned out great!

I too will be starting a 25g cube and I have a few questions for you regarding your overflow setup...

Is it loud? You only have one drain correct? Did you look into the herbie method ?

Apparently the herbie method can provide you with an almost completely silent system, all you should hear is the pumps humming..

Cheers,

DD

With a 1/2"-3/4" adapter. The type of adapter will depend on how you setup your plumbing.

The overflow itself is silent, I got a little gurgling in the sump, but a filter sock clamped up top masked the sound. Yes I only have one drain pipe. The herbie method makes sense, but you need 3 pipes and I didn't want a huge overflow on this little tank.

Here's a iPhone FTS from today, pic does not do it any justice. One day i'll learn how to use our SLR. I got rid of the monti caps as they were getting to big and mounted all my acro's from BC on the rock work. All the new corals are encrusting and doing well.

Some paly's I got from reef raft last week

It's good to see some other fellow Honda guys on here and specially az guys.
Very clean em1 btw.

And very nice build so far just finished reading through it and now it's making me want to do a 20g rimless tank. Are you happy with the light choice now on it?

The LED's were cool and sometimes I miss them, but I like the metal halide way better, corals look better and you don't have to sit there and tinker with the settings and find the sweet spot. I am considering adding a reefbrite blue LED strip just to get some pop back from my zoa growing collection, I think MH with LED actinics would make me happiest.
