Best Skimmer for JBJ LED

Hi everyone. In the process of purchasing the nano cube LED pro and have seen other posts that mention the trouble with attaching skimmers to it (lifting the lid makes contact with the collection cup). That said, can anyone provide advice on what skimmer works best in conjunction with this system? I'd like to stay within the $100 range (a little over is fine) and will not have a sump attached to the system. I need either a HOB style or one that can comfortably sit in the "allocated" space.

Thanks a bunch and love this site!

Arman

So after looking around at a lot of different tanks, I'm thinkin I want to create an assorted acan garden and add some extreme looking zoas. Kind of contrary to my recent SPS kick but what can you do?! Just have to find/make room to squeeze them in.

Also been thinking about stocking selection. The gold and black damsel has grown extremely fast so I found her a new home in my friends 315g. I plan on replacing her and my MIA firefish with a small blue spot jawfish and a small purple tilefish.

Thoughts on the selections?

No thoughts on new fish selection? Planning to order this week and get them into QT.

Vlamingi Tang is always a good choice.....

You need a goby or blenny.

Vlamingi it is! I was thinkin the yellowspot jawfish in place of a goby/blenny since I don't like them as much.

Purple tilefish is awesome looking and active also.

Aquamaxx Hob-1 mod

Hey Ange062, I saw on one of the threads you posted some pictures on how to mod Aquamaxx Hob-1 in order for the jbj 28 canopy to open fully. I did that mod but I ran into a problem with the exhaust pipe. Its not letting open the hood pass the 2nd notch. I have the JBJ 28g LED version, maybe the demensions are different ?
I was hoping you can help me out.

I responded in the other thread!

In other news, Nanotuners is putting together a custom quote for me for an HQI hood, their 2x18w actinic upgrade, and SlientX fans. Should make a pretty awesome addition to my tank!!

Still waiting on a quote from Nanotuners for an HQI hood, I really want to make the conversion. I can tell that my CF lamp is due for a change, a lot of my coraline in indirect light areas has turned green, and I have noticed slowed growth in the corals. Instead of dumping money into a CF lamp I'd rather just put it towards an MH upgrade!!

Some updates pics from today:

Our nano's are way too small for a tang of any size, please do not do that to these beautiful fish.

Is the contest a candidate?

John and I were both joking, even a small vlamingi would barely fit in this tank...

If you read further my real decision was either:
1) blue spot jawfish
2) purple tilefish

Thanks for your concern though, I hate to see tang abuse and often TP myself...

I was out of town over the weekend, then noticed yesterday that my little Nemo wasn't looking so hot. He was swimming a little funny, looked skinny, and was keeping his mouth open all the time. Still not shy though, came right up to the glass when he saw me.

I thought maybe the other fish were hogging food. I had noticed the coral beauty and the black&gold damsel taking turns bullying him a few weeks back. So I grabbed a pinch of pellets to target fed him. He quickly came to the surface to eat from my hand.

I am hoping if I keep doing this for a while he will recover quickly. Hate to see a fish not doing well. Historically speaking, once a fish has looked a little "off" for me they typically don't last long so I am just hoping to change that.

Just to ensure it wasn't anything systematic, I checked all my water parms and everything is spot on and stable where it has been for months. It had been nearly a month since I tested anything so wanted to make sure.

Nemo was a little more active yesterday, but still not looking too hot. Still eating like a champ, I target fed him twice yesterday. Still hoping he pulls through.

Sorry to hear about your fish.
Have you ever tried New Life Spectrum pellet food? My clowns went nuts for it. Ate it better than anything I ever fed.

I've been using the New Life Spectrum Thera-A micro pellets since I added my first fish to this tank That's also what I have been spot feeding him.
