Here's something I thought was kinda cool. Red coralline algae on the rocks. Red with an orange edge.

I've got quite a bit of it growing - it seems to like the high lighting conditions.

That's pretty cool looking. If it is still around when I get mine going I'll have to trade you a piece so I can get some in my tank.

absolutely! I'm sure it will stick around. It really seems to be growing well in the high light areas. Funny - I didn't even notice it at all when the rocks first went in the tank. At first I saw a few red patches and the first thing that went through my mind was cyno - but my circulation is definitley on the high side...

I imagine your flow is going to be similar to mine. I think my pumps are rated at 1400 gph with 0 head.

When they say a 1" bulkhead is rated at 600 gph, is that just gravity drain or if you have a strong pump pulling the water out wouldn't it be higher?

put it this way, my 1400 GPH LG pump has a 1" input.

That's just gravity... Oh - and it's more like 800.

I have a 1400 GPH with zero head on the return - I figure with all the head I have it's about 700 or so. On the closed loop it's 3600 GPH with zero head.

Lots of flow! I hope my two LG 4-mdqx's will be enough for SPS.

May be closing much sooner. They will not wait until March and they will give us a better price of 2300 off if we close in January...

sweet. Yeah - those 2 pumps will be great. They're good long lasting pumps - I do have to say though - you won't be happy with the noise they put out. The new house, you got a basement?

you work your microbubbles out james?

i thought about it last nite... i turned my return flow up and it started sucking bubbles from the overflow/skimmer into the return pump and giving me more microbubbles.... i didnt have a good look at your sump setup and was wondering.. is your skimmer output or overflow exit in the sump too close to the return pump?

just a thought-just in case

I need help man, these things are loud. You were right. What is a much quieter pump? I can't stand one running let alone two. This is really discouraging....

yeah - weather is pretty rough. quiet pumps are velocity - whisper silent but apparently they run hot.

Kip - microbubbles are gone... Just stopped happenning..> Wierd huh?

Oh - traded in the froggies at the LFS. Got some store credit. Used some of it for a bucket of salt and a purple pseudochromis. Just a little guy. He's cute though.

swam around for about a minute then promptly hid in the rocks... We'll probably never see him again...

kinda like i spent 80 bucks on a super large order of mysis... i havent seen one da_n mysis shrimp since!

good deal on the mirco-bubbles... i think i brought them back with me... i am getting them all of a sudden outta nowhere.

my Pi tenius continues to fade

... i guess i get to wait a couple of months for it to color back up... just like the rest of my corals

FWIW - Purple Pseudochromis came out for breakfast today. Looks very healthy - but a little thinner than I like. I'll have him fattened up in no time.

Back to work.

Because of the upcoming sand trade - I decided to enclose an area in the garage to house the 100 gallon rubbermaid tub. This should allow a cheaper heating and cooling cost.

How did I convince the wife? She's going to get easier access to our 2nd fridge and freezer. They were on the floor of the garage - now they'll be above the room in the garage.

The old room was about 6 feet by 4 feet - I added another 6 feet by 8 feet. Effectively tripling the overall space.

So I started by moving the fridge and freezer away and put up a few 4X4 cornerposts with a 2X12 frame.

Then I added a 1" layer of insulation.

So I needed a door. But obviously a standard door is too big... What to do??

Went to Lowes and looked in their clearance area and picked up this pre-hung door. 80 inches tall was too big.

So I cut the bottom 6 inches off the door and installed it.

oops - sorry about the pictures being turned....

Anyway - so in order to attach the plywood for the walls, I put some studs (they add to the strength - but are not necessary. 4X4's with 2X12's is PLENTY strong on it's own..

Of course I had to attach it to the floor. So that's where this handy dandy tool came in. What a fun thing.. It's the .22 nail gun. YEAH BABY - BOOM!~!

It makes short work of the nailing:

Oh - here's the bottom of the door that I chopped off....
