I bought the Taetronics LED from an Ebay seller (seller was sunvalleyus). I've never dropped it in water or gotten it wet. See the photo--completely burned out. I contacted the seller, he arbitrarily told me that there was a 60 day warranty (not listed anywhere), and if I send him $20, I could send the unit to him, and he was look at it to consider replacing it. I've had it for 4 months. Buyer beware.

for the 29 gallon- 90 degrees would be better imo.

i was actually wondering if anyone has installed optic in the fixtures them self? I was wondering what it would take to install something like this. I bought the standard 120 for a 60 cube and wish I did 90 now. I was thinking about adding 60's around the edge.

From my understanding the LED's are 90 degree. I was told to install the optics you have to open it up but don't think it is that difficult. I got them just because it doesn't come with a splash guard and I figured may help focus any stray light. Although I haven't received mine yet.

It's incredibly easy to install those self adhesive ones. Just open the case and stick them on each led.

[QUOTE=bhazard451;20450015]Post #2603 has this combo

Yeah this is the light I ordered, I'm now worried that it will be too blue as well. I hope it will look less blue as I turn down the dimmer? I also wonder if I'm not going to get as much growth from my corals because I don't have as many whites.
32b 19w 4v. do more whites make coral grow faster?

Thanks

I have had my d120 for about 3 weeks now and my combo
is
13 white/11blue
23 white/ 4 violet 440nm

I can tell you that it is blue! I am running the whites/blue about 30% and the blue/violet about 30 to 35% to get my corals used to the light. So far things are coming out and look good. I run the blue/violets about 8 hours and the whites/blue about 5 hours for now. I also installed blue moonlights as well and run those when the other lights go out.

I have it 8 inches above a 60 gallon 36x18x24. 90 degree optics.

Pros: Like the design and construction for Chinese made product.
Like the dimmers output of light
Cons: Should have went more white (for my tastes), although I have not turned it up yet so it may change.
Wish it had moonlights as well but for the price-can't argue too much.
Should have got 420nm violets instead of 440nm (there too blue)

I am sure more will follow once the light is broken in and the corals are growing, hopefully!

Have a question on blue to white ratio. I hear that you want more blues than whites, is that number of bulbs or amount on each dimmer? When they speak of a 1:1 ratio is that one dimmer with all blue and one dimmer with all white. For a ratio of 2:1, does that mean that the blues and whites will be mixed between the two dimmers?

1:1 means 1 blue led to one white led . Different dimmers for each color. 2:1 means double the blues to white or vise versa

So the unit is iron but aluminum is offerered at a price increase as from Simon

almost all led aquarium lights in the market made of iron, so this unit usually made of iron, we also have aluminium case, but the price is much higher, do you like aluminium case?

Corey

Thoughts...

Has anyone brought from these guys before?
http://damai.en.alibaba.com/product/...time&edm_ver=e
I was about to buy one but they want me to pay to a western union or T/T and I'm not really comfortable with that. Thought I could pay through Paypal but they said no.

Bhazard- I emailed Simon 3 days or so ago about the D120 and he still hasn't got back to me.

Doesn't matter, they'll look the same. If they use real Bridgelux, then Bridgelux would be better, so try that.

Have you tried Lyn? If you want I can PM you his email. I have been going back and forth with him tonight. Almost ready to order my lights.

That's what I thought. Lyn is working up a price using Epistars and upgraded the case to aluminum.

Aliexpress.com has a credit card option. See if they'll make a link there.

Simon isn't the only rep for Twilight Group, there are a few. Just search twilight group on aliexpress. They don't call their light the d120, so it might have confused him

Evergrow sells the d120.

Luckily it wasn't worse. Led string fried somehow.

I wonder which factory makes the Taotronics? That's the first bad experience I've heard about them.

60 days? That kinda sucks, the aliexpress companies all offer at least one year, but return shipping probably wouldn't be covered.

I'm not sure the factory, but the Ebay seller receives negative feedback almost daily, so it's probably my fault for not checking.

The 60 days was made up, if I had been within 60 days, it would have been a 30 day warranty. Shady seller.

I'm lucky the house didn't burn down.

Ive had a few different led light units from china and to be honest when i tested them with my par meter i was getting really good par readings.
A 120w led fixture that i tested gave more par than my 250w halides at the time.
Although par is not everything.
Saying that though every one of the china led lights has only lasted about 4 to 5 months before the leds burned out i think they always skimp on the heatsink a relay on fans too much and obviously if a fan breaks or fan filter gets blocked thats it the leds are going to over heat and burn out in no time.
Id say save your pennies and invest in a better quality fixture which will last you a good 10 year so you actually say some cost saving.

Do you think that 60 degree optics are too much for a standard 21" high 75 gallon tank? Should I go with 90 or 120 instead? I was going to go with an aluminum case, but they don't come painted. They could do a black aluminum case but they said it would take a long time. I am leaning back towards getting the standard black painted steel case. I don't have a canopy and I think that being silver the lights would stand out too much. If anyone has an aluminum case d120, could you please post pics. What are your opinions on getting an aluminum case vs steel?

Nope. It does sunrise and sunset like the rest. Looks like you save a lot of money not using colored leds.

No moonlights on that though, but if you don't need them, that's a hell of a price for a unit with an LCD controller
I know I am a little late responding to this one but, Twilight Group does have a unit with manual dimmer knobs and an LCD that only controls on/off time. I was quoted $127 plue shipping for that unit and $190 plus shipping for the same unit but with full dimmer control thru the LCD display. If they are quoting $170 including shipping that is the unit with manual dimmers.

Has anyone found a small inexpensive chinese fixture for a refugium? I have looked thinking I could find something small for the back of my BC29 pretty easily. But Im suprised that I havent stumbled onto something yet and for the prices Im seeing im not sure the JBJ (sizewise would be ideal) light isnt the way to go. I really thought I could find something similiar much cheaper than $60. I would like to stay with leds.

Here is a link to the JBJ in case you are not familiar:
http://www.marinedepot.com/JBJ_Nano_...FIRFRL-vi.html

BTW...My Chinese led fixture (the one with three dimmers and red/green) has been up for a couple weeks and I have purchased a frogspawn and mushroom frag. While too soon to post any growth results I can say that everything is looking good and the frogspawn seems to fully extend and is looking good!
