Does it matter if you go with 90 degree led angle with no optics, opposed to w/ 90 degree optics added to these? I am planning to hang my lights about 6" over the water and want to order the correct optics for this situation on my 75 gal.

You can add a 3rd dimmer for $9 more. With only 2 dimmers, all the leds will dim/brighten at once.

If you were going off of the link I posted, the price was for two lights.

I knew that what i'm wondering is with all the different brands which is the better quality for the price? I might hook a controller up so that should be an option. Was thinking the d120 but then everyone started posting all the different brands just need help deciding.

Are you looking to control the lights via a Reef controller like the Apex? The Chinese fixtures can't do that.

No don't have to just wondering which is a better fixture and light combination. There is the Apollo, twilight, d120. From what I understand. Just want to know what will last and have good par. That kind of stuff. I'm new to all this.

Well I finally got around to hanging my D120 light over my 30g LPS tank and all I can say is WOW!! Very impressed. I'll get Pics up tomorrow.

I have the 30Blue and 25 White and at 100% it looks very similar to the old 14k phoenix. I don't know if I'd do any more blue in the new lights I'm looking for. The only thing I may do is add some red, green and violet.

I'm thinking something like 29B 20W 2r 2g 2v w/90 degree optics. I'm just worried if I go with more blue say 2:1 it will be too blue.

Question, is there actually 90 degree led angle and 90 degree optics or are they the same? I'm a bit confused?

I've narrowed the light selection down to the Twilight fixture now I just need to really think about the ratio and the 90 degree thing. My tank is 120 SPS 4x2x2.

90. It should reach deep enough, and provide more spread.

Tater, would you mind posting some pictures and comments on how your experience has been with the light in this thread too? I really should have picked one up when they were on sale. Would have saved a lot of time instead of modding my Chinese fixture to get Apex dimming working.
will do it will probably be around the weekend.

Now to get the perfect color combo...

I have a 300 gallon FOWLR so I'm not concerned about coral growth. I don't want a "windex" tank. Vox had a really nice look to his tank, I'd like to achieve that somehow.

A couple questions. How much red/green/violet is too much? Is 4 of each in a 55 pc fixture ok?

I'm thinking something like this:

As you can see the red/green is on a seperate dimmer and I can adjust but would I be better off with just 2 of each color instead of 4?

I'm doing both coolwhite and neutralwhite.

bhazard I know you are busy here but you've actually seen these and your thoughts are always appreciated.

I know what fixture, it's all about the colors now. PROGRESS!

Which fixture are you getting and what company? Is this one with moonlights? I don't remember seeing a 3 dimmer that didn't have moonlights using up a dimmer switch. 2-4 each of red green violet should be ok. 4 being the most of any of those colors I would use. The red/green will pop on fish colors.

So confused! Going to be setting up a 75g FOWLR with a 40g br as a sump. Was going to go with T5HO lighting but now after learning about having to change out the bulbs so ofter thinking it might be a better idea to go with LEDs. Any suggestions on what type i should consider? Trying to keep it under $250 to $300. May get into some softies and mushrooms and maybe an anemone in the future after I have a better understanding of everything. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'll let you know in a few days how LPS like LEDs. I just installed one over my 30g LPS tank. Just hours after installing them everything was puffed up and looking better than ever.

The LEDs look great and as long as the light is not too strong, used with a dimmer and slowly ramped up over weeks, they should be fine. There's allot other factors that can kill any coral.

I think the lights are a great deal and the savings should be seen within months with not having to buy new bulbs and the lower energy usage.

Just my 2 cents!

Cool light

ok i have been following for awhile. i have decided to go with 3 of these over my 125g. its fully customizable. they have the same unit with 80 led instead of 55. but with all the talk from ppl saying they need to turn them down i will stick with the 55 led model and 90 deg optics. my question is this. i want my colors to pop but i dont want a blue tank. what spectrums should i be lookin at for my light? will 2:1 be too bright? and should i mix 14k and 10k and blue and royal blue? what ratio will give me the still white look with enough blue to bring out my colors? and what is the diff between blue and royal blue. i will be ordering and documenting my progres as soon as i figure my lighting ratio.

bhazard simon has suggested to me to use 60degree optics on my fixture cause they will be 36-38 inches off the bottom of the tank....thoughts
as fas as dimmers go, with the controller i can change the intensity of the lights at set times....

 First Channel:
(Daylight) point B1 B2 B3 B4 B5 B6
Time 6:05 7:00 7:20 14:00 18:00 19:00
Intensity 0% 80% 100% 100% 80% 0%
Second Channel:
(Moonlight) point W1 W2 W3 W4 W5 W6
Time 17:00 18:00 19:00 0:00 2:00 4:00
Intensity 0% 20% 100% 100% 20% 0%

like this
corey

Got my 3 D120's today. This is a 50/50 mix white and blue only with 90 degree optics over a 6' long 125 gallon. The color is plenty blue IMO.
I may need to add another due to the center brace. Getting a bit of a shadow. I also need to raise them though. Maybe would have been better off with no optics and keep them closer....????
I made a "rack" from aluminum L channel and riveted it together. I out a layer of duct tape on the inside of the rack to protect the paint finish. Had I known about the painted aluminum option, I would have gone that route for sure.
Anyway, here are the pics. Looks bluer in the pics than to the eye. This is full power. Will try the other camera later.

Yes sorry the moonlights are being put on a seperate switch.

I'm being torn between two less-expensive manual models from Ada http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/54...ight_with.html

and the bit nicer sunrise/sunset ones you posted earlier. I spoke with Lyn once about them. Like you said 100 difference per fixture is hard to overlook but having four of them I want to match the colors across the tank very well and having numbers to go by would be very nice.

So what do you think about the colors? Have you seen or heard anything about the orange ones yet? Thinking about adding those too but haven't heard anything. Don't want them to look bad. You didn't really comment on the color combo I was going for and I was hoping for some enlightenment.

I want the color pattern locked down first.
