For those who uses variable power supply, you may lose the last setting if you are using too low a voltage before shutting down the pump or after a power loss.

FS said they have seen last setting lost if voltage drops below 16V.

If it's stored in RAM there shouldn't need to be power to remember the setting. A battery is only needed to keep track of time during a power loss.

Thanks! Just got this email from fish-street

I got the same response. Given the response and price, it looks like it's the rubber stopper on the impeller rather than a whole new plastic housing/casing.

can you do a youtube video please

Ya, I'm looking for a group buy to get these through, but when I do get some, I'll make a video or at least some pics on making your own cord for Apex. Lets do that over on the apex wp40 thread though: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh...onnect+to+apex

Just ordered one after my original cheapo power head I bought 2 yrs ago for $25 went bad on my. Sent stray voltage in my tank and shocked me this morning with a reading of 91v. Hopefully this one last as long as my $25 cheapo.

If they can hold up for 1 year or more, the high price dc wavemaker days are done.

I was going to buy a used mp40 but not for 350!
I'm going to try one of these if its not to much flow for my 75 gal

It's very likely going to be too much in a 75g tanks unless it's got a lot of wide open space. But in this thread there are several ways to dial down the flow rate. I used the $12 variable output power converter idea. I've run mine at 18V rather than 24V for over 2 months now and it hasn't missed a beat.

You might wait a few weeks and see the new WP20 or 25 that is coming out. The price may be close to the WP40 price, but it may also have a built in speed control (a lot of rumors bouncing around). I put a WP40 in my rather full 180g DT and it's more than I want. I'm waiting on the new one and will probably get 4 or 5 of them. Two for my 180g (and pull the WP40), 1 for my 70g hexagon anemone tank and 1 (maybe 2) for my 55g QT/local tank.

On the other WP40 thread, http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh...2#post21446712 (much shorter TG), the thought seems to be that running the 40 at lower voltages will not harm the pump. Myself I think once I have it set to a speed that works for me, I won't change it. I just hope it will stay at the same setting I want when I turn it off/ on. Some say yes some no.

Consider the other option of getting an arduino. Cheap, and you'll have control options only limited by your imagination. Start by copy/paste code that others have already written here and at the Reef Angel forum..

Not owning one yet, let me ask...dose the wp's controller run its different modes by lowering or raising its voltages? Dose it ramp or pulse its self?

Mine is coming today.
Just need to figure out how to use it, but I know the forums are very helpful.

I have mine running on the lowest setting in a 40br. I have a piece of live rock a few inches in front of it to diffuse the flow, and it works great. I'll sell it once I get a wp25, but in the meantime it is working great. My anthia loves swimming in front of it.

If only copying and pasting RA sketches to Arduino were that easy. I tried that and I'm sure i did something wrong. From what i gathered i need to make a low pass filter and then hook it up to a PWM on the Arduino. Now I'm just looking for a sketch that i could just upload. That would make this pump so much more fun for everybody.

I have one on my 83 and it's fine. The only time it's too much is the W1 pulse mode. I use the random Else mode and have it cranked up with no problem.

It has several modes that both pulse and ramp up & down over varying time frames. It does this on it's own, and it does NOT do it directly by varying the voltage from 24v at the motor. Some people are adding on to it in order to lower the max flow from 3200gph.

The Jebao controller sends 0-5v analog to the pump. So in theory, it varies the voltage in that regard. How that voltage is interpreted and handled inside the pump/motor is anyone's guess.
