Copied from my posts on TCMAS.org...

The BM100 has arrived. I am pleasantly surprised by the quality & construction of this unit. The unit looks and feels like a very solid piece of equipment. The size is comparable to my BK180 Mini. I believe it is a bit taller though. Assembly took me about 10 minutes, and was very straight forward.

Below are some pictures while unpacking and assembly.

I'll post updated performance pics once I get it up and running, and once it is seasoned.

Sorry about the poor quality of some of these pics...

The unit fully assembled - with a pop can for size comparison...

Comparing it to the size to my BK180 box...

Showing the wall thicknesses...

Everything unpacked...

How it's shipped in the box...

Example of packaging...

Before opening & next to my BK180 packaging...

It's up and running :beerchug:. The pump is a bit noisy - it's considerably less noisy after an hour...but I can still hear it. I wonder if it needs to break in? I remember reading that a few people had experienced the same noise and resolved it somehow. I'll have to read up on it to see. Aside from the pump noise - it seems like it will be very quiet. Similar to the BK I imagine.

The foam is absolutely beautiful, amazing, awesome.... After spending all that $$$ on the BK - I'm almost embarrassed to say maybe even better than that of the BK :coolmad:. I would have no quarrels with running this on my 120 heavily stocked SPS tank.

$150 well spent. Yes, I'd recommend this skimmer.

That's not quite fair, look at the price of those 2 skimmers.

i will not doubt the quality and build of the BK skimmers, but does it blow the BM skimmer out of the water by a mile?

if only there was a way of measuring how efficient the skimmer performs.

Nice foam. I could never get the atman/via aqua pumps to aspirate much air. Maybe it's the pin wheel? Interesting. If your chamber's milked out and you get a good foam head with the resultant good skimmate then hooking up an air meter is mostly for the sake of curiosity. The BK may make more air, but milked is milked. Now if the BK makes more skimmate and recovers faster from additives/feeding and skims better with a low bio-load then that's something to be proud of, But WTH do I know as I thought my 2nd wife would be nicer than the 1st.

wow this is a blast from the past. I am glad the thread got a few reefers a decent skimmer at a good price. I followed the other BM thread for a while as well. I have seen one and they are well built. good luck everyone

Just set up mine last night, can't wait to see how much crud comes out of the water. Previous skimmer was a Red Sea Prizm Pro

I just ordered my bm 160 from nuocean. With shipping it came to 300 dollars. I can't wait to get it. I have been looking for months at different skimmers. My requirements were that it had to be inexpensive and external as my budget and sump space are limited. Of all the external skimmers out there I think that this one gives the best bang for the buck. The only one that comes close is the DAS, but i think the BM is just a little better. I hope that I'm right.

i see that the last thread on here is dated febuary but i was looking for a skimmer for my new tank... checked the nuocean website and it seems that the bm100 have already been discontinued. apparently the one replacing it will be the nac6 which is about 2" shorter, has alot wider neck, pushes 500 lph, and has a newly designed bubble plate. i was considering purchasing one but they will not be up for sale until june 1.
