You can get away with it in a canopy, or if u want shaded areas on an open tank.

I forget somewhere back in the nebulous did someone add a third dimmer or switch to the Evergrow D120 for moonlights? Wondering if it is possible and what price was? I read it somewhere in the last 50+ pages, just not sure of the unit/mfgr.

I wanna get 2 novas a4's for our 75g but I just seen they only have 48 LEDs vs the 55 LEDs d120 ect....

Is the coverage gonna be better with the d120's?

Now I'm wondering if it would be worth the extra $ to get the Apollo fixture and get an apex?

Question on the dimmers for these. I got mine a few days ago and when playing with the dimmer it dosent seem to get any brighter after the halfway point (specifically on the blues). Is it just not visually brighter? Or could there be something wrong with the dimmer?

I like my Nova with optics better than a d120 without optics. 48 vs 55 leds is not noticeable.

If you don't have an Apex already, its not very efficient to pay $500 for it, and then another $400 for the light. All you would be missing with the Evergrow's are automatic dimming and moonlights.

If you really want automatic dimming and moonlights, the Twilight lights with a built in controller are a nice option.

Are any of you putting your led fixtures in a canopy? If so , i need some ideas on how to do it. I was planning to reuse my existing 8" high canopy and cutting access holes in the top and leaving the tops of the fixtures exposed outside.
Anyone have any pics?

bharazd, how hard was it to retro fit leds into your NOVA unit? I finally got some other colors from Sam for my d120. and he suggested sending it to their American distributor to have them put the leds in but it appears that I could possibly do it myself. I want to try this first before I buy the Twilight controller model and see if I can get the color I was looking for. When I ordered from Sam the first time, I think I went too blue and I got all 14k whites which I did not want, plus the violets installed were 440nm from what he told me.

If you just want to change colors and use the same bridgelux leds they use, all you need to do is open the fixture, de-solder the leds you want to remove, and re solder the new ones in. If you can solder, its very easy. No wires involved, because the leds are on a pcb board.

Changing to Cree or other leds requires gutting the entire fixture, getting new drivers, re-wiring the fans, and wiring the leds from scratch. Huge pain in the ***, and is basically just building your own DIY fixture.

Great! Thanks! Plan to do the swap with other colors.

Yeah I thought the apex was cheaper and did more than it does lol...

I don't even think I need the moonlights and autodimming also isn't a big deal. I'm coming from a 4 bulb t5ho so these lights should be a huge upgrade as is.

Now that I'm thinking about it even if the a4's don't fully cover the 75g I could buy a third light for cheaper than the apex setup.

I would try the twilights but I figure if the dimmer knob goes out on the a4 I can repair that, if the twilight control panel goes bad that will be much trickier to repair.

They make the Nova in 3 sizes, A4, A6, and A8. The A8 is twice the size of the A4's, with 96 leds.

Cmantis, do you have a picture of what your light looks like over your tank with all the different colors you have?

I figured two a4's will work around the center brace better, and hopefully result in a little better coverage.

But maybe that a8 is pretty cheap I'm gonna look into that.

Can someone please list the K or nm of what the LED's come in for reference.

I want to order a mix of whites and others but i want to know what I'm talking about so I can get a full spectrum. Like, do I want cool or warm white...got me. hehe

Cool white = ?K
Neutral white = ?K
Warm white = ?K
Royal Blue = ?nm
Blue = ?nm
Violet = ?nm
red = ?nm
Orange = ?nm
Green = ?nm
UV = ?nm

Thanks!

Yeah that doesn't sound right? Which model?

Can anyone confirm there's gets brighter after halfway?

There's nothing wrong. It probably does get ever so slightly brighter up to 65%, and then hits max. You'll notice that under 50%, any minute adjustment makes a difference.

Think of a volume knob on a stereo. You get distortion once you turn the knob past 65% or so, or whatever the max the speaker can handle. Instead of "distorting" at max here, it just doesn't get any brighter.

These auto dimming models do they ramp up from nothing or do they come on and just ramp up a little

They ramp all the way, from 0 to 100%.

These are nice new lights I was just notified of too. These are somewhat comparable to an AI SOL without a controller or extra features.

I have a 40B with a tall canopy that I want to stay in-closed that has 2 fans pull air out on the backside, I would like to get 2 fixtures as I don't really want any shading and like a bluer look and wouldn't mind some UV. I do not want to do any soldering and would prefer pre-built plug and play fixtures with some fans blowing air. What fixture do you guys suggest? I have read pretty much all 124 pages of this thread and have seen many opinions and just wanted to see what yall thought would be good for mine. Thank you.
