I don't think you need two. One should be enough. I have two d120's and two 40 breeders. I won't have water in them until next week but if you still want then I can post pictures.

Pictures always help, I just have heard the max is around 24" and obvi the 40B is 36" would rather do overkill than under and have shading, plus if I ever upgrade could always use them.

Alright guys im about to order 2 a4s for my 90 gallon tank! My question is do i need optics? The tank is 24 inches deep standard for a 90 gallon. I know if it was deeper i would definitely need optics but do i need optics for a 90? I am REALLY trying to avoid the spotlight effect because i hate the look. Thanks for any replys in advance!

Think of a volume knob on a stereo. You get distortion once you turn the knob past 65% or so, or whatever the max the speaker can handle. Instead of "distorting" at max here, it just doesn't get any brighter.
Thanks. Just wasnt sure

I have a 60gal 36x24x18 and I have one D120 right now with no lenses. It is 8" above the tank with a brace in the middle. Light spread is fine and reaches where it needs to be. No shadows that I can detect or tell. Right now I have a few fish and corals and still working on the tank. Mostly mushrooms, polyps, zoas and everything has shown improvement.

you get less of a rate of change, but you still get a change. stick a meter under it you will see it, just not visually.

Looking for suggestions or feedback in two builds for a D120. I am looking for more pop in coral and fish with a slightly more overall blue look.

Option 1

4x- 660 nm Red
4x- 520 nm Green
6x- 410-420 nm UV-Violet
6x- 450-455nm Blue
19x- 440-445nm Royal Blue
6x- 3000-3500k Warm White
6x- 6000-6500k Pure White
4x- 6500-7000k Cool White

Option 2

3x- 660 nm Red
4x- 520 nm Green
6x- 410-420 nm UV-Violet
8x- 450-455nm Blue
18x- 440-445nm Royal Blue
6x- 3000-3500k Warm White
6x- 6000-6500k Pure White
4x- 6500-7000k Cool White

Many thanks to cmantis for giving me a starting place and much of the design.

Looks like a nice setup. Since I have yet to put mine over water I can't say conclusively but I was told to run the red and green together so that they blend. This is why I arranged mine the way they are. So I would say number 1.

Really liking some of these, most seem to come with 90 degree optics. Is that what I would want? They will be about 12" off the water in my canopy, what is the difference in optics? I am guessing they increase spread and reduce the spotlight effect...

Schedule

Hi. First, thanks to everyone for this thread, it has a wealth of good information. After reading through a lot of this, I pulled the trigger on four of the D120-style units and am really satisfied with them. My one question is about scheduling. What is working for those who have had them up and running for a while? Do you run the blues and white on separate timers or together? Any other thoughts on configuration would be helpful, as I've only had all four up for a couple of days. (Started with one to make sure it was what I wanted, then added the final three). Thanks!

Keep in mind I only had mine up for a few weeks before I found out that I had to move across the country so I didn't get much time to play with them. However, I had 3 a4's on my 6' 150g. Each dimmer was on its own timer and I only had my levels at 50%. Blues/uv were on for 10 and whites were on for 5 while I was getting the tank acclimated. For the short time I ran the LED my corals were really responding compared to my 8 bulb ATI fixture. I still need to find me a tank where I am at but haven't had any luck

Hi guys, great thread!

I'm looking at two of these http://www.aliexpress.com/store/prod...544640134.html
for my 40" long tank.

Do I understand right that there is no glass to protect the leds? They will be mounted fairly low above the water, something like 11".
And how silent or noisy are the fans? I want to know upfront if I need to replace them since the tanks stands in our livingroom...

Thanks!

It has a glass shield to protect the leds. The fans aren't silent, but they aren't annoying either.

I would go with two of these with 90 degree optics for your tank.

Thanks, I cant believe the price on these units
Easy to take a risk this way.

One last question, can I get some red leds somewhere and add them?
I once added a 'reddish'' (can't remember exactly what color) T5 to my Ati array and my tank totally came alive colorwise
