The controller is a nice addition to the light. I would be worried about the controller going out though. I'm sure they could be wired up direct inside, but I would be concerned about dimming manually.

+1 for an update on past purchases. I am considering these for an anemone tank and am curious on how well these have worked out.

Ok after about a week of on and off reading I am finally at the end of this awsome thread and ready to get new lights. I have just moved from St. Louis Mo. to Northern Alabama and am in the process of rebuilding my tank, I had to build a tank room in my extra detached garage because the new house has no basement and no good spot for my tank and equipment It is approx 225 Gal. mesuring 36" x 60" x 24" deep. I had 4 250 MH and 14 t5 39w for lighting. I should be setting up my tank this weekend and need to order lights so I dont have to hang the old ones. Right now fish and corals are in temporay housing.
I am thinking of 4 of the D120 fixtures with 90 deg optics. will this get me complete coverage on this tank?

I too used PayPal tp buy mine. I had credit card issues and after phone calls still didn't work. I tried PayPal instead. There was no way I was passing up free shipping.
I needed 3 new 250w bulbs and 4 96w pc bulbs. Not to mention my fixture is old and in need of some wiring work

Wow, what an awesome thread. I am looking to upgrade my MH's on my 120 but want to make sure I will not have to buy something else for some time. I also do not want to be limited on what I can put in the tank, well coral wise.

Downbeach: Is there anyway you could send me a PM with the price you are asking for the 2 remaining lights you have?

Thank you all for the pictures and info on these lights.

Ok, im about to pull the trigger on the A8 lights on my 225g tank (84" x 24 x 24). I think two of these lights should be good but I also want to know if its worth the pricing. It looks like the total cost will be almost $750 for two of these lights if not more and that seems alot for aftermarket lights. Any thoughts?

The A8 runs 96 3w leds, 192 in total for 2 fixtures. If you used AI Sols as an example with 20 leds each fixture, you would need to use around 8-9 of them costing ~$3,500 for around the same output. That's quite a difference.

Has anyone gotten their programmable controller light from twilight? I'm still waiting for some reviews of the fixture before I make my decision.

I'm on still the fence if I even need/want a programmable controller. I have an apex and with my MH lights now and I don't ramp up. I could save $$ getting the Evergrow fixture. The 1 light I already got from Evergrow 30b/25w is pretty sweet.

$521 Twilight/ $360 Evergrow. hmm decisions

I'm getting mine today or tomorrow.

A little birdie told me Evergrow will be making a programmable light soon too. I gotta say, watching the dimming happen over the day is pretty cool and I really enjoy it, but its so much easier to turn a knob instead.

So far I think the best Chinese LED's are they ones your wife doesn't catch you pricing out before you have a chance to skillfully explain how they fit in your budget BUSTED

Make sure to include the electricity and bulb changing savings that could be used for her shoe budget instead. I'm sure she'll come around. lol

I've been e-mailing Jason at Twilight about this light:
http://www.aliexpress.com/product-gs...olesalers.html

Any of you guys see a need for any tweaking in this design? I'm leaning towards eliminating the red and replace with 2 more blues or 2 more violets. I will be buying 2 fixtures and hanging them above a 90 gallon (48x18x24)

So far, the configuration we've come up with looks like this:

Less blue, a little more white. I like the multiple white combo, and the reds/violets look good. This is something I would go with.

I really do like a tank to be more on the purple/blue side. I remember a couple sample photos you posted and like those colors with maybe a touch more blue/purple. I can, however, replace the two blue that hug the violets at each end and replace with 1 CW and 1 WW (for 4 total whites) in their place to even out the ratio a bit if you think the blue will over power. (result 31Blue:12CoolW:7WarmW)

In that case, keep the ratio you have. I like a 12-14k look myself, so more whites wouldn't work well.

Go to youtube and type this in

"reef aquarium lighting in depth.central valley reefers"

Great video on lighting covering leds and mh. It is an hour long but very informative and seems to answer some questions about red, green, etc... leds.

Cool, yes please post the results. I am very much on the fence of getting at least one to try on my next order from Twilight. I still am not a big fan of the colored membrane buttons they went with on the unit. Lyn did mention that you can get it with the manual knobs and digital timer, that might be a good option in the off chance of a failure, the light then just functions as a manual one until you can get a replacement part DHL.

I don't think that would be the case. With the power routed through the timer, if the timer/lcd stopped working, the light itself may cease functioning. The only thing routed differently would be the DIM+ DIM- wires connected to a knob potentiometer instead of the controller.

Daring individuals could also use a 0-10v to PWM converter, and connect to an Apex instead of lcd controller if desired. Not sure if they use the same drivers on the knob model.
