48 hours of nog I have added some more fish and have increased feedings and this skimmer is loving it. I know this is sick, but I honestly can't wait to take a wiff of this later tonight when I empty the cup

I am ready to jump ship from my Vertex IN-100 and go with the 160. Is the Luke that everybody is referring to from Reef Filtration? Thanks, Jeff

My skim is nasty and fills the cup about half way every week but it isnt as nasty as yours so I am going to stock heavier now that it is obvious that the 160 can handle it. |

This skimmer has been great and the only thing that I do not like about it is how sensitive it is to my hands being in the water. Maybe all skimmers are like this, but I have only had a remora. The other thing that urks me is that when I shut off my return pump to feed, i need to turn the gate valve and lower the water level or it just about overflows. I am going to just set a standby on my controller to turn off the return and skimmer for 15 minutes which hopefully prevents me from having to mess with the gate valve. I love this skimmer and the guy/company i bought it from. I know that a phone call to Luke would resolve any problems I may encounter in teh future. +1 for Reef Filtration and +1 for the swc 160 cone.

Well after 1 week of running i almost filled the cup to the halfway mark and i had it set nowhere near being wet. So just for comparison's sake i took the skimmer cup off my previous mesh modded Reef Octopus skimmer and dumped my SWC skimmate into it and i found that the SWC pulled almost twice the amount of skimmate my modded Reef Octopus skimmer did in the same amount of time. I'm impressed.

Well guys, after having my skimmer sit around for 5 days w/o a sump big enough to fit it in. I went out and bought a sump to set it up temporarily till my new tank comes in. I set it up last night around 1-2am, so its been about 12 hrs. The first time I plugged it in. It started no problem. On a second restart, it made some rattling noise and started up a few seconds after the noise. Is this normal?? So far seems like i'm getting good foam. I have it sitting in about 7 3/4 in" of water right now. This is what it looks like so far.

Mine does the same thing with the impeller rattle for a few seconds on startup. I would not worry about it. Where did you get the water that you are you using in your sump?
