Bomber, I have read most of your starboard thread and have seen the progress of your tank. It took the entire day. I will keep a starboard bottom and I will convert it this weekend. Do you think that if I take it all out it will create problems for me? My sand bed has only been running for 6 months and it is super clear and white due to heavy skimmimg. BTW, didnt think that starboard would be very aesthetically pleasing but the growth of coralline algae over starboard did it for me. And of course, a desire for perfect parameters. Thanks, you are my new hero.
Jerry

Jerry,

To Reef Central

Man, you have already picked a hero with your first post? I guess there's nowhere to go from here but downhill, right Bomber?

OH BOY, you start right off with the hard questions, don't you? LOL
It shouldn't be a problem. Livestock out, water out, rocks out, substrate out - reverse.

My sand bed has only been running for 6 months and it is super clear and white due to heavy skimmimg.

Jerry, what kind of tank do you have in mind? Unless you're set on a hard core SPS tank, you might not need to to this.

BTW, didnt think that starboard would be very aesthetically pleasing but the growth of coralline algae over starboard did it for me. And of course, a desire for perfect parameters.

Then there's your answer. Be sure and get your circulation down and remember, you don't have sinks any more and the ones you do have you want them to purge and stay clean. You're going to rely on skimming to remove it for you. Don't cheat on the skimmer.

Thanks, you are my new hero.
Jerry

I can't get this stupid grin off my face (that will last about 2 more mins with this crowd).

Thank you back!

I don't know. It gets the job done though.

It's a modified Bullet3 on a Iwaki 70 right now.

Thanks alot Bomber. I never knew that post was my first ever. THey dont count the ones on the selling forum, I guess. Well I am glad it was you. The search for this info started when one of my corals died, and it wasn't sps. It was an lps that died in its own mucus or whatever you call that stuff because the lack of flow. I needed more flow from when I upgraded from my 10 nano to my 29g. I added a new powerhead and sand started blowing all over the place. So that is one reason I am getting rid of my sand and course starboard makes a tank look much cleaner. And I can bet its not only the look that seems cleaner.

I'm pretty darn sure my skimmer can handle your corals quite nicely. I don't remember the exact gallon rating as I asked months ago... Maybe I'll ask Jeff at LifeReef one more time. It's a LifeReef VS2-36.

I went through a ton of different skimmers before I settled on this one. Even then, I ended up making Mike (Precision Marine) do some modifications to it.
One thing I did figure out, what they rate them for you can throw out the window. It has more to do with how they are built, that decides what they can and will do.

I just wanna make another chamber, Would be round with flat plates with holes matched up to make it taller.... I think increasing my contact time would make it even more efficient than it allready is,,

Changed the 3/4" 90degree input on the becket to a straight 1" all the way.

Raised the becket 12" on a stand pipe.

Malcomb was the best behaved angel I've ever seen - until one day! He developed a taste for ricordea and cleaned the entire tank out!
He's in one of the tourist displays now.

Nice tank Jerel, how big is it? Our tanks are so crammed with corals, I feel like I need to give you some! hehe
That has to be one of the cleanest tanks I've ever seen. How long has it been setup?
I don't think I'll ever get used to no dsb in the main tank. It just looks too bare. Our prop tanks are bb, but so much coral fills up the space that it doesn't bother me. ;]
I'll have to come down and put some more corals in there! lol

Im gettering ready to tweak my ETS like this by adding another chamber and increasing the output pipe...

LOL we are all past due to "do lunch". We might be on our way up this next week, I'll let you know.
It's been up in some form or the other for years now, I jerked the sand bed over a year ago.

Starboard. It's almost the same as those plastic cutting boards.
