Thanks Johnny. Feel free to ask your questions.
I did not use the stock megaflow - I used the plumbing from my old tank - basically, 3/4" pvc to a locline output (split and pointed to each end) for the return, and 1.25" pvc and a durso reduced to 1" to fit through the stock overflow bulkhead. I'll try to snap some more pictures tonight. |

yep. Had it since the tank was setup originally. It bleached out horribly initially but it's come back and grown quite a bit in the last 3 years.

James, do you think the Durso gives better flow than the mega-flow? I'm not sure which one to use. Being a greenhorn the mega flow may be easier because it's adjustable though.
Did yu paint the back of this tank? Can't remember from the pictures. ---------------------- adamjonpeterson , I want a brain, Boy did you leave yourself open. Be glad the "Lounge Lizards" aren't arount ![]() ![]() |

Thanks Lunch.
Johnny - on your question about the durso versus the megaflow - they're basically the same. The durso was not patented and All-glass essentially used the idea. You can build your own for cheap - but if you don't feel like it I would buy one directly from the man himself - seems like the decent thing to do - and it's cheaper. The nice thing is that the durso that I run is 1.25 inches with a reducer to 1". I would think it would allow more flow although I don't know for sure. And yes - I painted the back. |

Whose idea was it? I would imagine, even if it wasn't your idea, if it wasn't patended you could get it patended, just as all glass probably did.

James, you used fully cycled LR for your tank, did you suffer any cycle when setting this one up?
I don't plan on starting as fast as you did but I have fully cycled rock, about 50 pounds, ready to go when I get saltwater in this beast. Do you think I will go through much of a cycle?

I'm sure they patented the name "Mega Flow" - which was directly modeled on the design that is commonly referred to as the durso.

What I really meant was that they trademarked the name, not patented...

I did this with my 90 gallon, I had rock processing in a 55 gallon, (rock from in side the tide line at the beach) and when I set up the 90 I transfered the rock and almost all of the water to the 90. It waited about 2 weeks and did a mini cycle over in two days. within a week I had coral and fish in the tank, haven't lost any of them and it's been over a year now.
