What do think about this LED layout? The only other thing I can think of is to remove all colors and just do blue and white. The top chart shows how the light is setup now. The bottom shows the changes I was thinking about. The only thing is that I would need to get another violet from Twilight.

It still wont blend right. Take a look at ghrorick's middle picture. That's how it should look for a good blend. You should have alternating blues and whites like that. The new design still has two banks of all blues to one bank of whites. It still wont look good.

I don't like that they made no effort to make the light actually look good, compared to what Evergrow can do.

Will be interesting to see how my one turns out then when it arrives with just the blues and whites. I might have to go back to my original idea of making my own cree one with a dimm4 as the controller.

If twilight woulkd give us an option to lay them out via a grid like evergrow
they might end up being decent. So from what I am reading it looks a
a 1:1 mix of white and blue is best. Would others agree?

Do red and green really help? Green might be used a tiny bit by the corals
but red isnt and might lead to more cyano. Is the white enough to make things pop?

When laid out in columns of alternating colors they dont blend in the water? I would
think they would even with 60 deg optics.

Seems the US made led fixtures like apollo use only blue and white.

So for those of you who got them.. what ciolor temp on the white
would you recommend? all 10k? 14k? 6500? A mix?

I'm thinking 14k might be to blueiish given all the blue the fixture has
and 6500 might be a little yellow but would help red/orange/yellow
colors.

Maybe 60% 10k and 30% 6500?

Are they dimmable? when you post the pics up could you please let us know the dimensions of your tank and how much the LEDs cover.

Twilight have given me a layout and it looks very evenly spread, I can't seem to copy the PDF file though, I have one violet smack in the middle, one red at each end, one green at each end inside the red and then alternating whites and blue across the the fixture. I asked twilight to give me there best layout and on paper it looks pretty good. Lyn sent me photos and they look good, lights are due unfortunately in 6 days. I saved $100 on shipping but got put on the slow boat from china.lol

I went ahead and placed an order for a d120 for my 40 breeder. So excited to get this light and see how it works out. Quck question for those that have ordered, the listing says 10 days processing time and 5 days for shipping. Does it normally take the full 15 business days to arrive? Or does it normally arrive sooner or later?

Who did you order from (and curious what combo)? Mine took about a week. They went through Hong Kong to Ohio and then here via DHL.

Hoity I would be interested in the layout Twilight send you. I took my fixture apart to see how I could re-arrange the LEDs. Unfortunately, they are mounted on a PCB and the dimmer layout is fixed. I am going to contact Lyn today to see if there are other PCB options that would allow for a better mixture between dimmer 1 and 2.

Yeah they are dimmable. I went with 3 nova a4's and my tank dimensions are 72-24-30. I went with 90* optics due to 30 inch tall tank

You can desolder the leds off the pcb board.

I might not even go through the trouble. I will probably open a dispute with aliexpress escrow.

Correct, but with the circuit layout I still won't be able to get a good mix. I am going to see what Lyn says about other PCB layouts before I make a decision. I would not have an issue re-mounting my LEDs onto a new PCB if they sent it to me. I am still waiting to get my other fixture and will compare the two to see if the layout is the same. If I am still not happy, I will probably end up doing the same and opening a dispute. I assume that you have not released the funds in escrow?

Did you try your light without the optics?

I was doing some more thinking and here is another layout. Just wondering what your opinions are. I change from a blue:white of 2:1 to 1:1.

I emailed twilight about doing a custom layout I design and they responded...

"Actually, we can make the led layout based our customer' requirements. Our engineers can design the led layout based on customers' requirement, after they confirm it and approve it , we will start kicking off the PCB and do it . Evergrow can offer the option to lay out the color, we can do it too, because we have 5 years led aquarium lamp design and developing experience. The dimmable aquarium with the LCD controller is new in the market, only our company can offer high performace to our custoemrs."

I compared them to ever grow in the email I sent them. So maybe there is some hope.

I'll layout mine and see how they respond? So is the layout the big issue? Any other
Issues that should give me pause?

Mike

Seems to be just a layout issue. Build quality is nice as well as the controller options. Let us know what they say about custom layouts.

Here is a picture of one of my a4's over a 12g nano. Not the best cell pic and like everyone else's it is way more blue in the pic then in person. The color is really pleasing. Mine have dimmer 1 - 24x Royal blue
dimmer 2 - 20x 12000k white and 4x 400nm

They will do custom layouts. They suggested one for me which I posted a page or so back. They also suggested doing 14000 k. And 6500 k whites. More balanced. I think they key to doing thesenmaynbe to make sure alternate blue white so that there is no vertical or horizontal line of blue .. .?

Maybe avoid the green?

Okay so if I am doing my own layout I'm thinking the following..
Just two dimming channels on the twilight.

What do you guys think? I think its pretty even. I have 25 on the
one channel and 30 on the other.

Livingseas, for some reason I am unable to see the whole image.

Chicago, did you do a custom layout with Twilight? Was there an extra charge?
