I have two of the same air pumps. I ran both plus the Vortech battery back up after Ike. I went over 24 hrs without any problems.

Good to know. You ran 2 vortechs on the backup for 24 hours? I thought that was suppossed to only last 15 hours for 2 and 30 hours for 1?

I only ran 1 Vortech. It just so happens one of the Vortechs had a problem so I had it disconnected.

Great idea on the power inverter for the car. Couldn't you keep like a Gel Cel battery in the garage on a battery tender and then just take that out in the event of a power outage. should be a simple back up and easy enough that anyone home could take care of (even if you're not home)?

Thanks. Trying to come up with something more automated.

Yes. Macropharyngodon meleagris or Guinea Fowl Leopard wrasse. I know they may be hard to keep but have always wanted one. Been eyeing this one at my LFS for a few weeks now. Seemed to be doing well and started eating mysis and brine. Figured that's as good a start as you can get.

It's beautiful. I read they are very difficult to care for.

I was looking at a male of a similar species.

Did you do a special QT with a finicky eater like that? Or just pop him in the display?

Unfortunately I do not have room to setup a QT. I know I know.... It's been at my LFS for a few weeks and have been keeping an eye on it. They had been trying to get it to eat and finally started taking mysis and brine. I finally saw her eat for myself so decided to give it a try. I just drip acclimated for 1 1/2 hours and put her directly into the display.

Funny thing is this is the first wrasse I've put in that did not go immediately into hiding. Just stayed out and swam around. Looked totally comfortable and unintimidated by the other fish. Hopefully that's a good sign.

Good to know, its such a beautiful fish! I've always loved leopard wrasses, but heard that a lot of wrasses like that overcompete for food with mandarin's and such.

I forget, did you have a mandarin in your tank? What about any other picky eater fishes?

I don't have a mandarin. The only other picky eater I have is the fathead anthias. Otherwise ther rest will eat just about anything

One last addition. This is a filamented flasher wrasse. This is my third. I am a sucker for these fish. Lost the first two from jumping. First jumped through egg crate. Second jumped through a bird netting screen. Now I leave the top of the tank open and egg crate on the back of the canopy. That should hopefully let him fall right back in if he jumps.

I know it's been awhile but what kind of wood did you build your canopy out of?

Thanks.

Yes, thank you Luis.

The canopy is constructed out of 1x poplar (3/4"). The column "build up" is 1/2" pine and the molding is also pine. I wasn't worried about the different species since I was going to paint it anyway. If I were to stain I would stick to the same species.

Thanks.

Few updates...

Unfortunately, neither the leopard nor the flasher wrasse made it . The leopard seemed to be comfortable in the tank. Very active, no aggression. Would pick at the rock and sand all day but just refused to eat. I tried everything, mysis, cyclopse, arctic pods, squid, mussels, krill, flakes, pellets, garlic soaked food. Would just take a nibble then spit out. Finally started eating some live brine towards the end (wouldnt't touch frozen brine) but I think too late. I started feeding the brine vitamins, spirulina, etc.. to give some nutrition but she died before she had a chance to eat it. I know they are notoriously hard to keep for this reason. Thought I had a chance after seeing it eat at the LFS. Bummed.

Not sure what happene to the flasher (oh, i misidentified it earlier as a Filamented Flasher, it is was a Yellow Fin Flasher). Very active and eating the whole time. Good color. One night didn't come out for dinner. Next night found it lying on the bottom. Whatever it was it happened fast.

Think I have the problems with the Tunze ato worked out. Think I had a few issues going on.

First, apparently you are not suppossed to mount the controller near other electronics or magnets. I had it mounted here:

On the otherside of that wall is this...

Probably not a good idea . So I relocated the controller to the door

Don't know if that was the problem but moved it just in case. The main problem was that the reservoir was siphoning into the sump. After the pump stopped, the water continued to drip continously and caused it to over fill. That explains why the sensors seem to be working fine because they were. I rerouted the fill line and the siphon stopped. Haven't had a problem since.

Had the strangest visitor the other week. Walked by the tank late one night and saw somehting strange on the base of the stand. Thought it was some garbage I may have dropped and went to clean it up. Then I realized what it was...

No idea how or why a frog got to the tank!?! There aren't any bodies of water near my house. Never even see a frog in the area let alone in the house! I guess somehow was attacted to the moisture?

I netted him and let him go outside. Wierd.
