This question is not about live rock, but it is about live sand. So I hope it's okay to post here. I have several dark gray patches in my sandbed, visible only along the side through the glass. I have read other posts where people described something like this and others said it was okay, but there were no photos. So I wanted to post a photo just to be sure. Should/Can I stir this sand up?

There may have been something trapped in the sand..like a snail...or something....give those areas a stir....will disappear overnight if that is the case...

What about this guy? (To the right) I think he's a "good crab," but wanted to be sure. Maybe some type of acro crab? He was chowin' down on something when I took this shot. The only reason I spotted him was because my husband and I came home later in the evening from dinner, and it had been dark for some time. Usually I am only able to see a claw coming out of a hole in the rock, grabbing at something outside his hideout.

A couple more. One crab, one anemone. Any ideas what kind they are so I know how to take care of them? I absolutely love both of them and want them to thrive.

sorry for the quality of pics. Waiting on LED's and im no good with photos.

Here are the hitchhikers.

This looks like a bristle worm to me? i have seen about 4 of these so far.

And this coral appears to be a sort of star polyp? But im not sure. The base is a pink, and the little heads are white in color. Each head has slowly opened over the last two days.

I also had a couple of snails and a yellow tip hermit hitch a ride in.

Thanks RC!

A decorator crab and the anemone looks to be a beaded anemone.

The first picture looks kind of like a decorator crab. I'm not sure about the second picture though. Rock Flower anemone maybe?

Thanks, cloak and liverock! I have had such a hard time identifying these two because there are so many varieties of each. I hope the anemone will come out of the crevice he's slid into, but I'll let him choose his spot.

I was surprised to find this guy in my refugium. I have no experience with Aiptasia (yet/thank goodness) but was thinking (hoping) it was a curly cue anemone. There are no actinic lights in the refugium so the colors are a little blah. Any help is appreciated:

Thanks!

I have heard some horror stories about star polys taking over. Im considering breaking the chunk off the rock this is attached to and fragging it right now to control the size and position it stays in the tank. WOuld this be a good idea or should i let it be?

Yes, you really don't want it in the main rock work. It can spread quickly and take over. I keep mine isolated to a smaller rock on the sand bed.
