Been using mine for about a month now. It has been great and I am enjoying the flow on W1 mode in the lowest speed.

If I go with the highest constant flow it will reach across my 125.

Yup. I just got mine tonight (Wp25) . I have a 65 gallon. I put it on else mode and came home to a sand blasting mess. I'm now running W1 on the lowest speed, knob all the way to the right and it looks like a perfect wave. I'll see how my tank responds tomorrow and adjust.

A few questions before I pull the trigger on a wp40 tonight.
1. I can't seem to order the impeller replacment parts to help silence the pump. Are they a must have or is the pump reasonably quiet without them?
2. Do these pumps come with a magnet/ suction cup as the default or will I need to specify on what kind of mount I want?
3. And most importantly, I have a standard 120(4ft) I'm pretty set on the wp40. Can I dial this pump down enough with a dimmer to not blow everything to hell in my tank? It going to be a mixed reef with equal amounts of sps, Lps and softies.

1. You shouldn't need the spare parts. Only a few have had issues and they seem to get taken care of. I've had mine 5 months now and it had a bit of a hum for a week or two and now I have to put my ear on the magnet to hear it ramp up and down!

2. They come with pretty stout magnets. Unless you have really thick glass you'll be fine.

3. I have a wp40 in my 180g and I'm pulling it in favor of 2 wp25's instead. I don't know what controller comes with the new wp40 (if it has the 3 speed control or not). But a rheostat and/or an adjustable power converter wil help control the speed (I use the adj pwr convt at 18V and it works fine).

But I'm switching to 2 wp25's so I can have 1 at either end and put them both on timers and alternating ends with some overlap. Pump1 runs 4 hours, both pumps run 2 hours, P2 runs 4 hours, both pumps run 2 hours, P1 runs 4 hours and so on. It ends up being like tidal flow. The corals may not care. But I really like to mix up the flow in the tank to keep things stirred up. And I think the tidal flow idea is cool.

This is a standard computer power supply cord.
If the problem is with the cord or the transformer the light on the transformer would be out or flickering when you tap it with your foot.

If the light is solid then the transformer is getting constant power and either the output of the transformer is bad or the controller is bad.

To check the output of the transformer use a voltmeter or multimeter and see if it is putting out a consistent 24V.
+1
Terrance, did you figure out what the problem is?

Im upgrading to a 125-150 soon and would like some input on number of pumps. I already have 1 WP40 and was wondering if 2 WP40's would be ok in a 125. I was thinking maybe put one on w1-w2 and the other on reef crest mode. Its going to be mostly a fish only style with some softies.

Thanks guys!

PS. Ron, if you could keep a lookout for me in the Fort Myers/Cape coral area for big tanks let me know lol aquarium reef center wants an arm and 2 legs for their tanks.

Now that is a great idea!

anyone know why the light sensor I just picked up is doing nothing when plugged in??? I know the sensor works because if I put my finger over it the light comes on and the pump slows. Is the room just too bright that my controller is in?? The controller is mounted to the side of my stand.

What type of light sensor, where did you get it from?
It sound like the room is to bright.
Try putting the controller in your stand and see if that works.

It's a sensor I got from radio shack. I saw it recommended on here. I knew I shouldnt have used the double sided tape. Going to be a pain to get it off the side of my stand. I ordered some sensors off eBay. I wonder if they will be shorter and less affected by the room light.

It won't even pick up the light under my stand. The sensor light just stays on.

Room seems to get too much sunlight. I guess I'll just leave it on the side of my stand. I'm guessing the pump will kick into might mode once my whites go off at 12 or when my blues go off at 2am. Kind of sucks because it will only stay in might mode for a few hours after that since the sun will come up.

Ok here's what I did and it seems to work better. I trimmed down the sensor and put a tiny piece of foam in front of it. The sensor is now responsive. The only thing is when my blues are on and I walk by the unit it kicks it in and out of night mode sometimes. I assume this can not damage the pump right? I figured its meant to be able to kick in and out of modes. There obviously has to be a better way but with the brightness of the room this is all I can come up with right now. Wife likes the white curtains. Need to choose my battles.

Yes you would be surprised. These things move the water. I think they are more like a MP60 then MP40 for that reason.

I wish there were a way to dial back night mode even more. Night mode whips my tank around more than the setting I use all day. I might just do away with the sensor.

So I just got a 180 tank and I have two wp-40. I am thinking of having two on one end and one on the other. I run my two on else mode in the narrow 150. Would a third for a FOWLR be to much

Well do you feel the 2 in the 180 now is good or to low?

If it's good now then it maybe to much with the 3 of them.

Well the thing is I am a few days away from upgrading the 150 short to the 180. So I don't know. Maybe the 25 would be a good fit

It can't hurt the worst thing is that it's too much and yow either dial it back or sell it.

Placement is half the fun, it also depends on what you have, I have to me very careful due to softies. So for you more info please.
You could try the classic tunze pattern ,put one on the back of each corner of the tank and pointed diagonally at the 40percent mark on the opposite side of the tank.
