My first reaction was to choose the 120w, but from your posts I believe most of 120w owners do not run them at 100%, so I thought going CREE and have the higher bright might be an option. After many years with FOWLR and want to enter reef world, so i am looking for 3 or 4 units for my 72 tank I am not attached to any type of coral. Thanks and greetings from South America. .
You get more value from the bridgelux units. Cree also does not make a violet 420nm led, which is very beneficial for a reef.

I would not use a Cree unit unless it used violets in it from another led maker, like Semileds.

Thanks bh. I will choose 120w option then. I will follow your advise and will seek a mix of 30 Royal Blues 11 neutral/8 warm whites/6 violet. Shall warms are not available, will add red and green. Thanks for your help.

Yes definitely post your findings. I am looking into this right now, but was simply thinking about hacking my light Doing a mcguyver

They aren't new, they are the Novas exactly, right down to the heatsink used inside. They just use a custom ratio like we do when we order directly.

It's nice to buy through reefbreeders for a quicker warranty process if needed, and the ability for them to add apex dimming by installing new drivers. The pics on the website show it, its the Nova A4. I haven't heard of 1 nova or d120 breaking yet though, they've been solid.

There's no difference in ordering from them or Evergrow otherwise. Evergrow would ship faster if they have a unit in stock instead of the 2-3 week wait from reefbreeders, and Evergrow can add the 1-2 power cord for multiple linked units feature. You would also get a multiple unit discount from Evergrow.

so they are adding different drivers? i just assumed they were jacking into the 0 to10v input to the driver. Or is apex PWM? i always forget...

I dunno, thenpic and the description dont match up. also, just blue and white are going to be pretty limited in terms of spectrum.

They add drivers. I assume two meanwells in parallel but I'm not sure. The drivers themselves cannot do 0-10v.

They tried to use the original drivers for Apex dimming when I ordered mine originally, but it didn't work well, and only worked on some units.

The lights that I have bought are ledbell, did anyone get any par readings from these. I have two over my 3 foot tank and they certainly look brighter than 6x t5 tubes, especially the blues.
I am Deciding on whether to keep them as two is a squeeze.
The specs are
LED type: Bridgelux and Epistar
LED Qty: 55pcsx3w high power
Size: 400x212x62mm mm
LED wavelength:
White: 16000k-20000k
Blue: 460nm
Lux (center): 138/2.5m, 95/3m, and 65/3.5m
Voltage: AC 85-265V
Luminous flux: 7000lm

I'd wait a few more weeks.. Evergrow is suppose to come out with an
APEX dimmable model. Supposedly in the A4/6/8 frame..

Not Apex dimmable, fully auto dimmable with a built in controller. No Apex needed.

Oh they told me something different. maybe it was a misunderstanding.

Either way works for me although apex dimmable would be cheaper.. given I am already planning on buying an apex.

need advice

I am planning to get a 48inch LED fixture from Houyi for my 135x60x60 cm tank (54x24x24 inches).

I thought of customizing it by adding red, purple, violet and green leds, therefore needed you opinions on the layout and the number of bulbs of each color that would be best for a mixed reef aquarium.

40 Pcs White
10k 10pcs
14k 15pcs
18k 15pcs
23 Pcs Blue (460nm)
8 Pcs Moon Blue (453nm)
4 Pcs Purple (427nm)
6 Pcs Violet (410nm)
5 Pcs Red
2 Pcs Green

I have also attached the layout diagram with this post. Will greatly appreciate your feedback.

thanks.

I think the colors were left over from another design. He sent that to me to show the new dimmer layout.

Too much white, I would do 3:2 blue to white. Also you might want to think about 4 green and 4 red and group them together. Do they have any 420 instead of 410 and 427?
