That looks so much better - I like the color a lot more, even though it is a bit heavily saturated.

I'll try and get some better pics tomorrow when the MH's are on.
I might update another of the changes I have done but have not posted yet...I think that's what you were talking about? I'm leaving town Tuesday 6am and have lot's to do tomorrow before I go so it might be September. ![]() |

Nice FTS!
The tank looks great! I always enjoy a comparison shot of past to present and that's a lot of beautiful growth in a year and a half! Very nice!

Here is a shot with the MH's on, it's not a very good one. I was trying different WB settings and well I'm still figuring it out.
![]() I'm posting it anyway to show a upgrade that I had not documented yet. When I installed the manifold and got rid of the Mag 9 return I took out the closed loop and the OM 4 way and put the Dart on the return and picked up 2 Vortechs MP40w's with battery backup. The biggest reason I wanted the vorthechs is incase of a power outage and I'm out of town my wife has some time to get the generator going if shes at work or something. You can see I have one on the left and one at the back. ![]() |

I think the changes are nice. Are you finding that the change in your water movement is impacting how your SPS is growing?

Yeah...especialy from the first version of the CL before the OM4way. Then the flow just went from one side to the other so the growth would be bent in the direction of the flow instead of strait up. After the OM4W and the vortechs the growth was strait up. Other than that I have not noticed any other difference. The biggest thing for me is the battery backup and they are really cool and fun to play with.

Looking great! You must notice a reduction in heat after ditching the mag 9. I use a mag9 to mix up fresh salt water and it sure does warm up my 30g brute quick!
So are you having any problems with the sand moving around with the vortecs? I've heard the flow is VERY wide with those. BTW, that anemone is looking awesome! I can't believe how huge it is now! Tyler |

I just got back today from a quick couple day trip and I'm happy I got the votechs. The power went out two nights ago not sure for how long but it was nice to know the battery backup was there keeping some airation in the tank. I don't know if it's a false sense of security but it makes me feel better anyway. With the fall wind storms right around the corner I'm hoping the investment will pay off. Well I leave tomorrow for a week or so, at least I have a blackberry to check in on RC from time to time.

I know I feel better for your tank too.
![]() Because of the IceCap BB, I never really worry about the reef when the power goes out. If it takes longer than 30 minutes to get power restored, I fire up the generator. Being out of town, I'm not sure how I would talk my son through that one though. |

I showed my wife how to start up the generator and I have the things that need to be plugged in marked. I will go through it again and change the gas in the gas cans in the next few weeks. having the Vortech with BB is nice that way she doesn't have to drag out the generator and go through all the set up every time the power goes out for a short time. Also if the power went out right after she got to work and stayed out all day that would not be good. So I'm hoping the thousand bucks for the two vortechs and BB pays off, I'm sure it will.
I didn't have a camera at the time I made the manifold so I don't have any pics of it before it was installed. I just have the pics I allready posted, here's one. I'll try and get a better shot in the morning before I leave. |

That's a a pretty good picture actually. It looks like you used 3/4" gate valves, with a bushing/reducer to 1/2" for those hosebarb connections. That's a good idea.
You've had that for some time now, so how tough it is to turn those ballvalves? |

I got the ball valves from HD, they are threaded and the 1/2" hosebarb confections threaded right in. They are way smother to turn than the red handled ones and still turn smoothly and easily.

Should be similar to cleaning any other pump...I would use an old toothbrush to scrub off the grill and prop....then soak the entire wetside in vineager for a 24 hour period.

I wasn't sure if any special care was to be taken, sounds good to me, the first one goes in the vinegar bath right now. The second one will go tomorrow, since I'm back off to work Monday morning.
I left right after diving on the 1st and got back in the wee hours this morning, so I guess I'll have to do a big tank clean/maintenance weekend before leaving Monday. The tanks not looking so good right now. Well off to rinse my dive gear from 11 days ago ![]() ![]() |
