Lighting

Thanks for the info.....What is the reason that lights with metal reflectors should be perpendicular to the tank instead of horizonal.....Thanks

Spiders are made to spread light sideways Mike.

You only run your mh for two hours? That is nothing like what everyone else is doing? It just shows you that there is so many way to run a successful tank!

dphinsx2, I have rolled my MH on my SPS tank back from 9 hours to 4 and now I have better color that I did before. So thats either one of two things, I was blasting to much or they like the peak intensity for shorter periods,,,,,

But Bomber's tank has vastly improved clarity because of the lack of nutrients in his system. For the rest of us soup-owners, we need the MH lights on longer I believe.

What does the length of light have anything to do with how much we feed? I think that electricity is still flowing..... His lack of nutrient would only attrib the coloration .. Not his Photo taking skills... I just think its a maturing system that has reached its Stability plateau,, which IMO is 9 mnths to a year,,,,,,

Isnt that about how old this sys is Jerel?

I think because he has increased clarity, intensity is greater. Thus the corals don't need the longer lighting period that our 'cloudier' tanks need. I know my PAR isn't nearly what Jerel's is.

I could be wrong. I'll go unplug my MHs for a while.

His tank is 10 feet long,,,,,,,, and he is only using 250 watt MH's with 8 5 foot Vhos paired on each side.. So I be you have really close to the same amount .......

Jerel.. I cant remember.. you have 4 MH's running correct? Or is it 5 ?

Nice looking corals. Now don't take this the wrong way. Is the cutting board so you can dice up the SPS for fragging?

Reefez, The cutting board is for looks and glass safety, it keeps live rock from shattering the bottom of the tank if it falls, and give the live rock something semi rigid to grip onto , and also makes it easier to clean out detritus in the tank. Hence a very sterile environment.... and alot of water movement without sandstorms,,

Added bonus is light being reflected off the white starboard back up, under the corals to illuminate the undersides.
Jerel has posted pics of fire corals growing underneath his rock structure where its not receiving any direct light.
Not exactly where I would grow them....but hey, he's being doing everything else different.....
LOL,
Nick

You're going to have to compete light with nutrients if you trying to compensate for nutrients feeding zoox.
Literally burning them out of the coral.

The problem with that is it's very taxing on the animal. Think free radicals - oxygen.

Your right about that.. Thats why I dont feed my fish like I used to,and when I chose the fish for my tank I picked ones that could feed off the live rock as well...... I only feed them a little at a time twice a day instead of a mass feeding...... Of course my skimmer is way over rated for my tank. 200 gallon skimmer on a 40 gallon tank..

Nathan

Bull hockey!

If there's nothing to take out, it just stops working.

Dont you Drip Kalkbucks Coffee anymore to keep that parameter inline? If you use a Pendant reading lamp you might get enough Zoox in your forhead to dream of polyp extension ...
