Thanks for the pics, I hope it works out for ya. If you just need a inch out to get the cup past the sump i would cut that bad boy down. (Sump)

Maximus, congrats on being the first to receive yours!!! Sorry about the height. If you only need 1/4", try sanding down the skimmer cup edge, that should work. If you need more than that, maybe work with the sump instead.

Thanks againg for the pictures. Before you start cutting it down(skimmer). See if that would effect any kind of warranty on it. It would be a shame if you could not be able to make it work for you.

I defintely dont plan on cutting the skimmer cup. If I cut anything, it would be the sump.

Yeah, great pics. Thanks.
I hope you are able to dial it in. Maybe you can look into a taller stand? I did a switch like that a few years back. It sucked, but I was much happier in the end. Good luck!! Jim

Maximus, im bumed for you also bro.
You ought to sleep on it you may think of something. how much more room do you need? Thanks, for the good photos I can see where the elbow of concern has a solid piece of acrylic on it for extra support, it should be real strong the way they have it. i'm not concerned about that any more

Can we get some pics of the pumps? I would like to see the intake side to see what they did with the threadwheel. Also where does the pumps suck water in?

Here's the problem:
Sorry if this doesn't look clear. Basically, once I put the skimmer in the sump (which requires 6hrs of work!), I wont be able to take the cup out of my stand. I have the clearance on top (just barely) but because of the tall sump, tall cup and low stand, the cup will not come out.

I was half-joking about cutting up the skimmer. I think it would affect it's ability to skim if you shave down the, oh what's the proper term?, the central cylindar that the bubbles travel up to get into the collection cup. That is a specific length and should remain the factory height to produce the desired "wetness" of skimming.
Hope it works out Sang! Looks like you've got some work ahead of you for this weekend! I'd cut the sump if I were you, heck it's only about 7 inches wide and only a few inches tall to get that collection cup out, right? Cut it, cut it, cut it!!!! LOL. Good luck bro! |

Lid wont make a difference. I need to shave off about 3.5" off my sump for it to work.

So the edge of the sump is to high. how tall is the cup? how much would you have to cut off your sump rim?

Yes, the top edge of the sump is too high. I would need to cut off around 3.5" off the top of the sump. The cup is exactly 8.5" tall.

Yeah, I just turned off my power and when it goes out, the water level ends up around 3" from the top of the sump.

Do you have room for a remote second sump just for the skimmer?
I've done this before it good bit of work but something to consider. it might be even easyer than removing your current sump A 10 gallon tank is all you need. it should fit right in it. it an idea I sill say talk about it tonight, but don't cut any thing until you sleep on it.
