New to saltwater
Hey all! I've been reading on here for a while, and have finally started by 100 gallon reef build. Actually it's going to be basically a FOWLR tank, with a few beginner corals. I am doing as much DIY as I can! I have started a build thread here http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh....php?t=1958904
My stock list includes: a few (probably 3) Blue Green Reef Chromis Blue Tang Picasso Trigger Fish 2 False Percula Clowns Coral Beauty Angel Spotted Mandarin Fish and maybe a Volitan Lion Fish (my daughter really wants this one!) I appriciate feedback on my stock list as well as my build (as it progresses!) |

Hello All
been reading/learning for some time now and figured it was time to try to be more interactive. To pay it forward if I can for the knowledge I have gained and am still gaining from reefcentral.

Hello all
Hello my name is Gary. I live in SW Florida. I am very new to salt water systems. I have had many freshwater setups throughout my life but have always wanted to give a salt water tank a try. There is so much more color and activity in a salt water tank. My current system is a 55 gal reef tank. The lighting is as follows: 2-PC daylight bulbs and 2-PC Actinic bulbs. The filtration leaves something to be desired but it is a hang on the back type. The whole system was given to me free of charge including some LR and 3 clowns. I have since added some corals and a couple fish. We recently purchased a complete used 110 gallon setup. I am in the process of re-staining the cabinet and making a sump with refugium. I will be creating a thread showing my progress. The link below is to pictures of my current 55 gallon tank;
Thanks all for your knowledge and one day I hope to be able to contribute. http://picasaweb.google.com/GCaseman...M2pkerLlYSOTA# |

Hello RC! Name is Kenny and I have had a freshwater tank for about two years. We finally decided to pull the plug on it and upgrade to a SW. I have the tank set up now and am going ot start purchasing the equipment. I have been researching practically every day for the last two months but I know I have a lot of unanswered questions.
Oh, its a 70g bow front. |

Hello, back in the hobby after a 4 year break, setting up a 90g w/55gal sump, will be mixed reef. Need to get lighting, skimmer etc, have filled tank(water/sand) and am looking for the rest of the parts now. I have an SC90 overflow and am shopping for a return pump around 1000g(I guess) due to 5ft lift from sump to tank. Thinking MH or LED for lights still researching those threads. Any suggestions, directions or help would be ap.

Have you checked out Liverock.com They are in florida and and prefer to fly rock and sand to minimize the stress. We ordered our from there but the weather is not cooperating and he hasn't shipped it yet. Good luck.

Hello Everyone, a little help!
Hi,
I'm a total noob to salt water and reefs, ut have had a 100g fresh for years. Me and my wife did a lot of research and reading which brought us here. I've read alot of helpful threads and found answers to questions i had. This is a great site and lots of great knowledge here for the picking. Thanks to all of you members and especially to the Staff at RC for a job well done. Our 26g bow is setup and waiting on our LR and LS from liverock.com in Fl. Weather has not permitted shippment yet. The tank has a coralife 65 skimmer and one powerhead. Is this enough flow? The other question is the skimmer is producing micro bubbles and i have adjusted over the last several days to no avail. I also triple checked the setup by the instructions and all is correct. Any suggestions? Last edited by HollandsReef; 01/19/2011 at 11:21 AM. Ahoy mateys. Brand spanking new to this world and loving it so far, but finding myself in over my head. Without going into the details of why, I have an 85gal tank, ~50lb LS, ~80lb LR, Remora AquaC Protein Skimmer, Sump (dunno actual size, but advertised as big enough for a 125gal), Nova Extreme T5 8x54 (single reflector), and some critters (4 blue damsels, royal gramma, scooter blenny, sand star, 5 hermits, 5 snails, and a lonely peppermint shrimp whose 4 buddies passed away after diligently eating up the aptasia that the tank came with), and a ricordia, some other red mushroom thing, and a frag of zoos. My apologies for the newb speak, one day I'll learn the proper jargon.
So yea, I got all that and NO EXPERIENCE. This is gonna be fun. |

Hi I'm Sarah and I'm new to saltwater fishkeeping in general. Having kept and bred various freshwater fish for about 6 years now, including discus, EBJDs, halfmoon bettas and others, I am taking the leap into salt. Knowing very little about saltwater, I am planning to keep a reef style tank, with my only absolute must have fish being a pair of picasso clowns. I am planning to do this setup in my 3x3x2 ex-dicsus display, which I think should be more than ample for my first tank.

New to this hobby but really enjoying the DIY stuff. I have a 40g acrylic Truvu with custom stand, all glass 20g sump, quite one 6000 return pump, and homemade plumbing. Lighting is plain fluorescent for now till tank is cycled and such. Also have a 55g long with custom stand thats not set up yet, and a 20g deep that houses some African cichlids for my daughter. Pics of my soon to be reef tank below.

Newcomer!
Hello,
My name is Falon and I am very new to the hobby. I set up a 55 gal about a month ago and have put live sand and 1/2 live rock and 1/2 lace rock. A few turbo snails and a few crabs. Also I added a few gupies out of my freshwater tank. I am trying to study as much as I can before making any more purchases. My next step is the t5 lighting. I went and got actinic bulbs for the tank and found out that this is not going to be enough. And thats about as far as ive gotten. I keep trying to go to the next step but I get confused with all of this other stuff I know nothing about. After lighting I dont know what my next focus should be. I really dont know what a sump is or what is the full purpose but I think this is something I need to read up on today that I might need to do for a reef tank. But Hi to all and hopefully I will learn something at a COMAS meeting in oklahoma I have herd about recently. Thanks, Falon Last edited by falonchristie; 01/21/2011 at 10:05 AM. |

Hi all,
I'm not really new to the hobby, per se, as I've had a 65 gallon tank up for about a year and a half. I've been lurking around the RC forums for a while now, but never really had anything useful to add. I'm currently finishing up the set up phase of a 225 DT (crappy phone pic attached) and have had a couple issues come up which could've been addressed quickly with the insight of some of you guys. Thanks for all the info you all provide! |

Help finding Coralife Aqua-Chill Chiller connections
I have a Coralife Aqua-Chill 1/4 HP Chiller, that I bought used. good thing is that it works, the bad thing is that the inlet and outlet connections are missing.
I have contacted Oceanic about this, since they own Coralife I guess, and they said that those connections were discontinued about 5 years ago. I'm thinking that there must be some other source of these connections out there. The best way I can discribe the connection is this: A compression fitting to the chiller, that converts to a hose barb. My ruler says the outside threads are approx. 1&1/4 inches. The inside dimension is about 9/16 inch. Anyone that can help, please send me ANY leads if you can. Otherwise, I may have to dismantle this chiller and see if I can rig up something else! Attached are 2 images of the chiller and the chiller fitting I'm talking about. Thank you for you help a1eyejack |

Hi
Hello
I just joined up a bit ago. From Grand Rapids MI. Going to design my first reef tank- about 100g rimless cube. (Once had a fish only tank.) Will be coming here for a lot of advice so thought I'd introduce myself. Current thoughts are ACAN LED lights, sapphire rimless (any suggestions), an oversized protein skimmer, refugium. I would like to be able to shop for used items but it seems I am not allowed to view the sale postings? How can I become eligible for that? Anyway, thanks in advance for tolerating all the questions I will be asking as things move along. Zymurgy |
